Indie games are simply getting better and better, I only got into indies recently with Spelunky and Lone Survivor on the PS Vita and man these games never fail to surprise me while the so called "AAA" games never fail to disappoint me along side their gigantic price tags

There's different graphic filter options that change the appearance. They have ones that emulate the NES color palate exactly, some that look like a Game Gear, a monochrome Game Boy, different old PC models, black-and-white TVs and even a red-and-black only Virtual Boy-esque filter.

Name one good sandbox game from the NES era, exactly this is why we need this game...

Donkey Kong, Pacman and Space Invaders are probably the only retro arcade games i have ever played and i feel ashamed of myself

Being in Italy, i'm still waiting this game. Was born in '86, hope to catch as many references as i can. Good review.

a 7? That's freaking low for what I figured this game is worth.

The review itself as in the content was good and pretty spot on, just seemed like you would have had more fun with this.

And if this was a game on the NES back in the day, it would have been a top seller I bet.

I think that's underrating it. Sure, the 8-bit style difficulty is there, but I thought it was awesome overall!

Looks really good. I remember hearing about this a couple years back, back when he didn't plan on releasing it as a paid game but rather a free NES rom. It's come so far since then and it's finally good to see it released. I need another game for my VITA, even though people have complained that it gets very challenging, i don't mind the challenge.

If there are two things I would change about it, the screen resolution should be 512x480 and doubled the size of the sprites. That way it would keep the aspect ratio of the NES resolution while making as much use of the screen resolution of today's TVs. Also in the older games, sprites were made to be drawn intermittently to prevent the FPS from dropping as the computer would have to work harder to draw more moving objects on screen. I would have liked to see that.

Fun Fact @4:45 that disco is an almost exact replica of the one from Leisure suit Larry and the Land of the Lounge Lizards. This game was playable as black and white or color, I had the Black and White version on my old IBM 8086. : )

This review is awful, the effort that went into building this game was immense and the stuff the guy is picking on is terrible, if you wanna play Paper Boy exactly the way Paper Boy handles then go play paper boy.

Not everything is so hippy-dippy and wishy-washy. I prefer IGN to Gamestop because they're more brutally honest and realistic. They focus and dissect the game's flaws and strengths, based on a perspective.

I think it's a 'little' unfair to say the game doesn't capture the NES games, due to the controls not being exactly the same as the original games. Can't really expect it to be all those games. It's referencing them, not being them. If that was the case, this title would be more of a retro game compilation/emulator.

It is on sale on Steam now. I think I'm going to buy it. Need a few more games for my summer train trips this year.
