I was in Yangshuo in 1993, I was almost 20 yrs old coming from europe by train.. unbelievable how it has changed. only bicycles and a few transport vans back then, the best hotel in town was 20 $ a room and there was no hot water. it was amazing though. full of backpackers and with a very rural atmosphere. unrecognizable now for sure looking at this video
