Boreal chorus frogs are common in snow melt ponds in early spring in Yellowstone. They calls are really loud in comparison to their size. Only the males call to attract a mate. They are unusual because they can freeze solid in the winter. The real trick is that they "defrost" in the spring and survive the thaw. Truly an amazing feat!

Yes! I think I finally found what animal is making those birdlike cricket sounds 24 hours a day in literally everywhere muddy with tall grass from Denver to South Dakota.

I just found a male and female Boreal Chorus Frog in my basement. They must have gotten in through the drain lines somehow! Very cool frogs!

I don't think they were really waiting for another to call or replying to each other. Only the males call. They are trying to out call the other males to attract females.

I just moved and there’s a canal very close by. I’ve noticed it will be totally quiet and then there will be one call, then another, then a huge swell of hundreds that tapers back down to silence. Is this a bunch of chorus frogs? It’s very different than any frog behavior I’ve observed before. I recently learned we have a specific type of chorus frog around. They’re lovely!
