Have 4 rods one shallow, mid point and deep. Then, use 1 rod with a slow retrieve longer pauses. A blockhead weedless ned rig or football head jig with a soft plastic creyfish chunk. Then use procure catfish candy. That helps. You may have to add a little more due to colder temps. Slower retrieve moderate to slow or possibly super slow. Each cast of retrieve speed with your searching spinning rod and reel combo doesn't work adjust retrieve. Let the other 3 spinning rod and reel combos sit out at their points for 10 to 15 minutes max. This helps a lot. I've done this all year around and it works well. Of course when it's warm an added tip 1/2 reel cranks fast 1 second pause to give lure darting action 1 to up to 3 times. Plus super fast 3 to 5 seconds vary retrieve gives a realistic presentation. Erratic presentation represents injured forage.

So with the circle hooks, that is why you reel in some slack and it brings the hook into the side of the mouth? Then you set the hook as opposed to the old way with typical hooks where when the hit is happing you just grab the rod and set the hook? i have never used the circle hooks yet. Another question, we do alot of bluegille fishing, I have some real small circle hooks. Think they would work for them. we used crickets to catch them. Typically we use a #4 eagle claw hook for them.
