I love this band and want them to be successful, but this doesn't seem to straddle either camp of being traditionally commercial, crossover or advancing on being hardcore. I like this track, it's quite Smiths-y, but it's not going to bring them more mass appeal. All in all, a bit confusing, however I will keep the faith and eagerly anticipate more new material and wish them godspeed.

I was raised to not say anything if I didn't have anything nice to say but (forgive me Mom and Dad) I feel this departure from their original sound was a mistake. Some of us like our bands bleak and dark and the pop-music bands already outnumber them by far. And shouldn't a band called "the murder capital" produce bleak and dark music? Their first release was epic. It was reminiscent of some of the darker 80's bands yet had a sound all their own. The album cover was (is) bizarre, creepy and complimented their music perfectly. This songs reminds me of when The Cure (one of my favorite bands) did "Friday, I'm in Love". It just never fit in their cannon in my opinion. It was a hit for them though so what do I know. Anyway, I'm hoping "Only Good Things" was an attempt at a hit single that was forced on the band by the record company and the rest of the new album will sound like their first. If not, I will probably pass on purchasing it.

I can’t get onboard with the vocals for this. Doesn’t suit James delivery at all and sounds clunky and cheesy. This is a long way from the superb tracks on the debut. I understand the need for a more optimistic direction after the bleak debut, but this isn’t for me. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the next couple of releases!
