Surely it stands to reason that if you move to another country where the native language is not English, you should start to learn the language of that country before you arrive.

Thank you for this. I am wanting to move to Italy maybe next year. I have watched many Youtube sites which althought they have been informative, I am very aware that it feels like some are trying to sell a dream. I now plan to move and rent a home in Italy so that I get to understand the reality. Maybe the grass is not always greener

One thing I’m worried about is not having access to expat groups. I’ll be moving to my husband’s hometown, small town in Campania, very few people (if any) from the States and the UK. I speak Italian and will have family and friends around me (my husband’s), but I would love to know even one person I can speak English to and relate to in a linguistic/cultural level

Agreed about the stress and about ex pat depression. I find myself down in the dumps as a TCK suffering in a monocultural environment.

It is amazing that these elementary tips need to be listed.
It is amazing to think that there are people who embark on an adventure like moving to another country without a basic investigation of what awaits them.
Evidently they exist and there are many.
