today I bring to you a discussion about some real life inspirations behind the helms and masks worn in the Lands Between. I will talk about Thiollier (yeah, my new favourite character), Freyja, White Mask Varre, Goldmask, Glintstone crowns, Okina's mask, House Marais along with Lady Tanith and the Imps. can we learn more about these characters through the origins of their head gear?

all the video content I used is credited on the screen, almost all the images credited to wikipedia, wiki commons or fextralife wiki.

I always really liked Sellens mask because it was only one of its kind and seemed oddly serene.

I wondered the same thing too in my first playthrough

I absolutely love to see people finding the inspiration and history behind the design of FromSoft games. If things like that won't make you believe that the world is amazing, I don't know what will

In almost all soulsborne games the characters you can find will be wearing something over their face. With the primary ones that don’t are: crest fallen soilders, patches, and some friendly non-humanoids.

And with each one, these characters have no persona they’re trying to hide behind. They are exactly who they present themselves to be, whether for good or bad reasonings. With the only time we see patches wear a helmet being when he’s either pretending to be someone else or he’s gone hollow and forgotten who he was.

With lucatile from ds2 first removing her mask before telling you she’s honestly terrified of going hollow and forgetting everything that made her who she is.

I always wondered if Tanith’s face was flayed and that’s why she wears the mask

To be fair, masks are very cool and I would also make a game with people who wear them all the time

Another cool thing to consider about the glintstone masks are the pratice of erasing your name and giving your work to your master, in religious texts (christianity) some of the sections writen by one peraon are very long and its been though that deciples of their teachers contu ues theri work in the teachers name as a show of respect

It’s a Fromsoft theme, they do it in every game except Sekiro.

It was because in Darksouls if you were hollow you looked like a shriveled corpse.

There is something with their design choice making their character "faceless"
