Ryan and friends, in the future, whenever you are reviewing modern motherboards with M.2 slots, would it possible to state if each is wired directly to the CPU, or if each is wired downstream of the DMI 3.0 link? Many users are still unaware of the performance difference, particularly if one or more M.2 slots are limited by the max bandwidth of the DMI 3.0 link. Specifically, a RAID-0 array of 2 x M.2 will not make much of a difference when it hits the ceiling imposed by the DMI 3.0 link which has exactly the same bandwidth as a single NVMe M.2 port. Thanks! /s/ Darth Malventano Fan Man

i would take the 1950x then sell the processor and buy the incoming 8core intel coffee lake. and i have a little bit extra for the new motherboard. =p

I finally figured it out. Ken is the early release clone version of Ryan. PC Perspective welcomes feedback from the community to continually improve and refine Clone Ryan, with the goal being to provide consistent, Ryan-like hosting capabilities, while at the same time affording Natural Ryan all the time needed to visit various conventions, expos, UK basketball events, and all of the nameless, featureless locations throughout the lower Ohio Valley region.

@25:30 the blackberry phone with a physical keyboard, if you can type faster on that physical keyboard than I can using on-screen swype then you are a god of the tiny keyboards.

Last light Redux looks beautiful, played it last year on a 1060 6GB. The framerate is also wonderfully stable

A game like The Witcher 2 with Super Sampling brings video cards to a crawl.

36:40 "and the 8086 launch that was also not received"
You can say it. It was not *welcome.*

Ken, all X299 motherboards support Kaby Lake X. You just lose some RAM and PCIe slots if you use Kaby Lake X on them.

35:28 would've made a good thumbnail.

am i biased if i think AMD's threadripper has a better motherboard design than the Intel X299 chipset?

It'd be great if you can get in and test those Mushkin Pilot units. The DRAM is Nanya so if the NAND also is non-Micron, non-Samsung, non-Hynix (basically means; if it's Toshiba or Sandisk) then it could be a great choice for political shoppers looking to avoid parts from the market fixers.

We are entering the era of memory-bound games, with Star Citizen recommending 32GB unless you have separate SSDs for the game and the page file (or a single Optane 900P with its leadership in simultaneous read/writes - the Optane tie-in they did wasn't just for publicity's sake)

That Asus motherboard might very well have a pretty crappy VRM - that's where manufacturers usually cheap out. Propably worth looking into that and not just the superficial features before shelling out the cash.

I like to call the Gigabyte board, Dezignaire it sounds better.

Alienware is such a horrible value, I have no idea why anyone would pay that much for something with such low end components, sure they spec out ok but reference gpus, the worste PSU and oem motherboards with crappy power delivery and cheap chinese caps and mosfets...they charge the most to give you the least...a horrible horrible deal.
