The Monastery of Dourachanis or Dourachanis is dedicated to the birth of the Virgin. It is built right next to Lake Pamvotida and at the foot of Mitsikeli, just opposite the castle of the city of Ioannina.

Tradition has it that the monastery was built by an Ottoman soldier, Durahan Pasha. Durahan Pasha, coming down from Drisko while moving with his army towards Argyrokastro, saw at some point a built iconostasis and believed that it was a miracle (he came from a Christian family). In the evening he marched with his army on the frozen lake and when he later realized the danger he found himself in, he returned to the place of the icon and built the monastery.

In the recent activity of the monastery, especially in its charitable work, Father Athanasios (according to Sotiris Hatzis) played a big role, founding Anthos. A boarding school that operates a Primary School and a High School.
