When camping about 15years ago, I was sitting at the edge of a loch, I spotted movement on the ground, on closer look it was a dragon fly that had crashed and gotten sand on its wings and also had a folded wing. Realizing that it could not fly, I picked up the dragon fly and admired its beauty, I then spent the next half hour or so gently removing the sand from its wings and unfolding the the stuck wing. After about 5mins or so after having the sand removed it began to clean its wings further. A few mins later it began to pulse its wings and with what seemed like a burst of energy waiting to explode. It took off and zipped around me a few time before zipping away to eat all those dame Scottish midge's. I cant under state how much I appreciate the Dragon Fly. Well done on the video an amazing look into the biology and behavior of this amazing creature.

I live on a 2 acre clearing in a small (20 acre) woods. Most of the year it is wet, with pools and runoff towards the river, one mile distant. In the summer dozens of dragonflies patrol my property during the day, while bats do the same at dusk. I have never used insecticides or herbicides on my property and the natural grass is dense, green, and weed free! Even in the wettest summer, it is extremely rare to encounter a mosquito and we sit outside all summer with hardly a bite. Whenever I see the dragonflies and bats I greet them and thank both them and God for His amazing natural engineering!

This is one of the best videos I have seen in a long time. As a botanist, I have often been in awe of dragonflies and wanted to know much more about them. Well-done!

once i was in a very rural area and noticed probably hundreds of what i thought were helicoptering maple seeds fluttering down but upon closer inspection i realized that they were the head and wings of flying termites.. so i watched the sky for a bit to see where they were coming from. maybe a dozen or so big dragonflies were zipping around catching and eating the termites in midair, leaving the head and wings to flutter down (still alive) it was pretty cool to watch and made me think how cool it would be to fly through the air, dive bombing and snatching up prey, eating it and circling back for more!

Great video with nothing missing from the Dragonflies stunning ability in hunting and flying.
The Natural History Museum in London should have this on a continuous loop to show off their Dragonflies.

when I'm cleaning our outdoor ponds, there are often dragonfly nymphs in the mud and plant matter, and I consciously watch for their wriggling; an amazing thing is their ability to climb to the surface of the pile of mud and plant matter, and, on reaching the surface, they seem to unerringly head "downhill" toward the water... just amazing to see an apparently-simple insect larva, perform so intricately!
BTW, one thing missed in the nymph discussion was their "rocket propulsion"; instead of only swimming or crawling after prey, they have the ability to jet away, water-jetting many body-lengths in a second! Truely master predators, in all phases of their life-cycle!

You can see where science fiction movies get their idea's from, when designing spaceships, and alien appendages. Thank-you for a very informative video, with a real voiceover that didn't mangle words, pronunciations, or a sentence. A warm, intelligent sounding voice can make or break a video, this one nailed it😊.

After watching this, I'm left with a profound appreciation for these incredible insects, who's extraordinary abilities not only make them successful in their ecological niche, but also remind me of the intricate balance of nature.

I've long admired dragon flies.
Their iridescent colours are beautiful.
I rescued one from my pond that realised it couldn't swim!
After 5-10mins to dry out on a nearby branch, it took off to continue chasing bugs.
