Japan's plan to Invade Australia during WW2?

The Imperial Japanese Navy proposed in December 1941 invading Northern Australia as a stage two war objective after conquering South-East Asia. Captain Sadatoshi Tomioka strongly pushed for this arguing the US would use Australia as a base to launch counter attacks in the South-West Pacific. The IJN argued the invasion could work because northern Australia was lightly defended and isolated from the main population centers. The IJA opposed the idea deeming it impractical; it would over-extend their defensive line; they could not spare enough troops to garrison it; and there was still hope of invading Siberia. The IJA calculated it would take 250,000 troops and 2 million tons of shipping, a force larger than what was used to conquer South-East Asia. Instead the Japanese pursued a strategy of isolating Australia, with operation FS, but the loss at Midway canceled this.

What most people don't know, is that the Japanese Army and Navy HATED each other, intensely! Could you imagine having to ask the Navy if they would transport your troops all the way to Australia?? Haha

Australia wouldn't even bother defending, they would just go back 2 months later and take over the ghosts town bases. The entire time chuckling about all the People that didn't understand everything is poisonous

The plan, if I remember my history, was to use bases in New Guinea to attack Northern Australia. While Darwin was ultimately abandoned as a base, the Battle of the Coral Sea thwarted Japanese plans to take Port Moresby.

The Japanese "Invasion" was halted by the Australian Forces in Papua New Guinea way before the US MILITARY ever even entered the War.
The battle of Midway has absolutely nothing to do with the security of Australia from Japanese this is just a story constructed by the USA to make them appear to be heroes, whereas the reality is that the USA was never a part of this conflict in the Pacific when it really mattered in the beginning stages that had already been fought and won by untrained brave Australian farm boys in the New Guinea jungles years prior.
