What do you feel is the most stressful part of pursuing a music career?

Just signed out of all my social media accounts to take a mental break. It’s overwhelming to be constantly searching for the next content theme to ride or coming up with ideas. It’s been liberating.

Getting into flow state is so important. One of the less talked about things is that actual reps and knowledge are needed to get there most of the time. If you don't have a process or a grasp on the skills you're using, you'll get derailed by what you don't know, which will make it infinitely harder to get the work done

Just practice. Make the bad videos, make the bad music, then once you have them out of the way, you'll have the skills to get real work done without being interrupted by gaps in your skillset. Good luck to all the creatives out there 🤘🏻

I've really been trying to jump on social media just to make posts or check DMs and get off before the scrolling takes hold. Unfollowing or muting the people that's posts make me feel some type of way has helped some too. Not sure it's the best tactic but seems like a start. Best Wishes everybody! 🙏🏾

Making and posting content has gotten to the point where it feels like the equivalent of sending emails at my day job. I know I have to do it, but I feel largely indifferent while doing it and largely indifferent to the outcome. If a post gets some engagement, I try to figure out what worked. If it doesn't, I try to figure why it didn't. I don’t actively hate it like I used to, but I don’t feel passionate about it either.

It's a thing I have to do, like being my own makeup artist, hairstylist, choreographer, producer etc.,

One thing I've figured out: musicians/songwriters/singers need to keep playing and playing and playing and playing... all the social media, marketing, pr can't help an "above average" performance. You've got to be stunning from the first note.

Finding that balance of taking care of your mental health and being consistent with your content is key. Sometimes you need to cut back on the content to take care of your health and sometimes you need to push yourself out of your comfort zone to get that content rolling out. The only way you’re going to find that balance is by DOING IT

yup, I feel obligated bigtime. I've been pushing through the burnout it doesn't get better but I try to get out and go for hikes and take a step back once in awhile and just open my daw and make some prototypes

I definitely resonate with this a lot. I think finding what makes you happy and doing that, avoiding the things you know stresses you out, all helps with dealing with anxiety. I also find the meditation helps, along with journaling. Journaling is a great way to work through stuff in your own head! Find what makes you happy and stick with that. Life is too short to be miserable.

I am a mix engineer, music manager, label owner, and i get frustrated with having to depend on other people to get me their part. I am preaching the way things are done but artists dont have the level of output i know is required to be successful. I think the concept you were talking about is productive procrastination. Im guilty of that but i also recognize it and get back to the hustle. Great video, thank you for sharing so i can share it with my artists

Flow state is easy when you dont allow stress to take over. unfortunately some people dont realize they put self imposed pressure on themselves, and dont know how to get out of it.

Musicians today need to be:
- Social media managers
- Camera crew
- Video editors
- Music promoters
- Talent scouts for other musicians to collab with
- Audio engineers
- Financers of the music distribution
- Graphic/Visual designers for social media/promotional material
- Working 1 or 2 other jobs to pay for everything

I changed a lot in the past year and a half but barely posted during that time so I find it hard to work out how to show who I am now
