Yaygın olarak gümüş yanaklı kurbağa balığı olarak bilinen Lagocephalus sceleratus ( Gmelin , 1789), Tetraodontidae (kirpi balığı) ailesinde bulunan son derece zehirli deniz kemikli bir balıktır.
Diğer kirpi balıklarına benzer şekilde , gümüş yanaklı kurbağa balığı , yumurtalıklarında tetrodotoksin içerdiğinden ve daha az ölçüde derisini, kaslarını ve karaciğeri, onu obur avcılardan koruyan, yenildiğinde son derece zehirlidir . Toksin içeren bakterileri yediği için toksik hale gelir. Bu ölümcül madde, istemsiz kasların felç olmasına neden olarak kurbanlarının nefes almayı durdurmasına veya kalp yetmezliğine neden olabilir. Mısır ve İsrail'de ölümcül zehirlenmeler bildirildi

Türkiye sularına Süveyş Kanalı üzerinden giren balon balığının sayısı her geçen gün artmaya devam ediyor.

İstilacı türler arasında yer alan balon balığının sayı olarak artış göstermesinde ise küresel ısınma önemli rol oynuyor.

Denizlerde beş türü olan balon balığı, ülkemizde özellikle 2000’li yıllar ile birlikte görülmeye başlansa da, son dört yılda özellikle Doğu Akdeniz’de sayı olarak büyük artış gösterdi.

Hint Okyanusu kökenli olan balon balığının şu an bulunduğu sularda üst bir predatör tür bulunmaması sebebiyle de çoğalarak denizlerimizi istila etmesi önlenemiyor.
Bu tür açık deniz balıkçılığı yapan balıkçıların denize bıraktıkları ağları keskin dişleri ile rahatça koparabiliyor.

Bunun yanında misina, iğne ve kurşun zokalarını kopartabilen balon balıkları olta balıkçılığı yapan kesimi de olumsuz yönde etkiliyor.

Please never do this, people. Fish that inflate aren't supposed to inflate using air. They're supposed to inflate using water. Fish CAN suffocate, and fish that can inflate usually can't get themselves to deflate if inflated using air. This fish was extremely lucky that it was able to deflate itself this time because it could very well have suffocated right then and there after being dropped back in the water like that.

(If you don't believe me, please look it up instead of arguing like a child and correct me in a civilised way if I'm wrong. Being negative all the time isn't a good way of living, and arguing over such small things is childish and pathetic. Also, to those who assume that I have no life, I get outside plenty and spend more time with my family than you want to believe. The only reason I'm putting this much effort into this comment is because people can't seem to understand that, food or not, this is terrible.)

There's a difference between consuming animal products(Eggs, meat, dairy, etc.) and tormenting a live animal. I eat stuff that comes from animals, yes, but I don't like it when living animals are treated in this manner. Don't shame people for having a different diet to you. Some of us have no choice(AKA. Medical reasons.).

Knowing animal facts doesn't make you an expert. Even I made mistakes here that I had to correct. I never claimed to be an expert, nor will I ever.


Here's a fish fact to lighten the mood; pufferfish and blowfish are different fish that both have the ability to inflate. How cool is that?
