Paul McCartney: The Beatles' Other Drummer

Paul can certainly drum and demonstrated that on at least 4 songs with The Beatles including Back in the U.S.S.R, Martha My Dear and The Ballad of John and Yoko. He also manned the drums on his own album Band on The Run as well as surprisingly contributing to the Foo Fighters Sunday Rain.

“What instrument do you play?”

Paul McCartney: *yes*

Paul played bass guitar and drummed on 'Ballad of John and. Yoko'. John sang and played guitar. Just the two of them. At one point, John turned to Paul and said, 'Go a bit faster, Ringo!' And Paul replied, 'Okay, George!'

If I remember right, Paul played all of the instruments on his first solo album

Drums and bass go hand in hand.
Ive been playing drums for many years.
Picked up a bass and advanced quickly.
I still can't play a guitar worth a damn, but I play bass good enough to hold bottom, and figure out songs pretty fast. Love both instruments.
They're the backbone to any band.

His drumming on Band on the Run is superb. John Bonham pointed out that he was impressed when he heard the drumming skills on said album.

Paul also played drums on "My Dark Hour" by the Steve Miller Band. Did a pretty passable job as well.

He obviously wasn't as good as Ringo was but he was still great!

He's Paul Mccartney so he's good at everything. Could have played centre half for Liverpool if he wanted to. Good old Macca.

McCartney was a serviceable drummer was able to accompany himself on piano and play guitar well. But he was a great bass player and an even greater songwriter. But its really Ringo that other drummers have been influenced by.

Listen to Band On The Run—the whole album, then pull your head out of your rectums so you can hear better. Listen to the drummers for Nirvana and Foo Fighters who say McCartney is a brilliant drummer and the rare drummer who can compose memorable drum parts (as he did for The Beatles many times). Ringo had/has superb otherworldly feel and groove, and he’s a great song man and singer’s drummer—fantastic crooner. No need to ignore McCartney’s obvious talents behind the skins.

Paul played drums on Dear Prudence, but also did John and George. Ringo came back as they were finishing the song and quickly overdubbed a short bit at the end. He also contributed with hand clapping and back vocals.
