At first I didn’t want to learn the Cyrillic Alphabet because I felt it was too difficult but, I discovered soon that using the Latin Script actually, just made things more difficult because Russian has a lot of sounds that don’t exist in English so, I forced myself to learn Cyrillic Alphabet. Now, I can’t even attempt to read Russian if it was written using the Latin Script because it looks like gibberish to me!

German native here. Good video brother u absolutely right with your points. In school I found it hard to learn English you get bombarded with grammar, rules and vocabulary which is useless in 70% of life. I only got fluent and comfortable with English from YouTube, online games, speaking with natives, watching English shows and movies. I started learning Russian 3 months ago and doing pretty good so far I think, although I have nobody to practice speaking but I speak inside my head everyday and will soon try to speak to people in VR chat. Also my son was born 3 moths ago and my only goal is to speak Russian by the time my son learns to speak German :D

Handige aanwijzingen. Youtube filmpjes zijn goed als aanvulling op een reguliere cursus of lesboek.
Very well explained. Youtube videos are good as an addition to a regular course or textbook.

Great video. Some of the common wisdom about language learning and some good Russian specific points. I liked the point about setting aside specific vocab time daily. I'll add that to my schedule!

Learning Russian by jumping from one course to the other, watching YouTube videos randomly.. I did that.. wasn't working very well. However by jumping around on YouTube I found your channel which is uitstekend! :)

That last one, I should start doing more is “learn new words everyday.” As important as review is doing a large chunk at once in one day it can be a lot.

I did learn back in high school and part of college but, I need to re- structure my methods. There was no Duolingo or all this stuff . You would have to go into a book store and buy a Living Language Set. There was YouTube but it was not as big as now. And I don’t know about Duolingo until a few years ago which is a shame. I could have learned on breaks but it’s in the past now.
