So this means I can go and tell my mom that back then when she forced me to eat all the vegies, I was just following the instructions of my genetics that evolved for millions of years for me to say NO at the dinner table.
It's late now but I win!

That makes sense because it seems as I get older, I'm starting to eat foods I didn't care for the taste of before. Almost like a lot of foods are starting to blend together

Also, babies: This TV remote looks delicious. Let me just try to swallow it whole

Oh... Kids have more tastebuds? Well that might also explain why food alsways "tastes best the way mom cooked it" - the magnified sensation of taste paired with a good scoop of nostalgia.

And that’s why adults go for flavor profiles that will stimulate our taste buds to remind us we’re still alive 😅

I blame Gerber for kids hating vegetables. My child had been trying the real thing and so we thought they were ready to switch to baby food, but she despised it. Gave her the real thing, cooked and seasoned again, and she was fine. Curious, I tasted the Gerber and other baby foods.. Their veggies are just nasty. If grew up thinking that's what vegetables tasted like, I'd hate em too.

For me as a kid, broccoli was one the most delicious food on Earth. And for many other kids in that North region. It also was rare, expansive and delicacies.

I come from an Indian vegetarian family from South India. At least 10 generations of my ancestors before me were vegetarians. I grew up loving vegetables. Okra is my favorite. Incidentally my 4 year old son who was born here in America loves broccoli and okra. (He also loves fries and hot dogs and mac n cheese etc etc). But he still loves his vegetables. Could it be genetic as well? Indian kids dont see vegetables as posion?

Meanwhile my niece that's 2 years old eats cabbage like it's an apple while watching TV 😂

Someone did an interview in Japan, asking kids their favorite foods. So many of the answers were vegetables that the interviewer thought he was being trolled, but the confused translator said, "No, we just teach our kids to eat healthy here."

This was thoroughly explained in my developmental neuroscience course. The biochemistry of it is quite fascinating

You ever seen a two year old freak out the first time they get mint chocolate chip ice cream? That first time just blows their little minds. 🤯

its the same thing for disliking a food, the more you try it the more your body will go from "this is poison!" to a "this is a valid food" reaction

This totally explains why I like spinach now and not when I was a kid.

Sorry, but that kid spitting out the broccoli was hilarious 😂

I heard mothers who eat lots of vegetable and a variety vegetables have babies who like vegetables. I liked vegetables as a child. Even spinach and broccoli. I liked bitter greens like mustard greens. Thanks mom!

I used to hate ranch, mangoes, and guacamole and I love all three as an adult.

I’ve said this for years, so it’s cool to hear it’s correct! I believed babies and toddlers were fussy over vegetables bc it was natures way of keeping them safe.

My personal theory is that the body craves what the body needs and the kids need different foods to meet the demands of a growing body, and then when we age our needs change.
