For someone who was lucky/blessed enough to have grown-up with loving parents, the verse toward the end goes straight to my heart:
"And every time I see my parents in the prime of their lives

Offering their son the kind of love he could never put down
Part of me is still that stainless kid, lucky"

Not your typical rock-n-roll lyric. Actually brings a tear every time I hear it.

“Here, 25 years later, I was still really affected by this train accident from when I was in the eighth grade, ” Flowers admits. “Two seniors from the high school were killed. I had seen one of them that morning. They had a baby. I didn’t go to grief counselling, they weren’t my best friends – but I was just shocked at how emotional I was when I started to write this verse.” — Brandon Flowers in interview to NME.

So this song might be dark, but also it is kinda therapeutic, like all the other songs on this album. It is about returning to the problems of the the past and dealing with them post-factum.

Never thought I would hear a harmonica in a killers song! But I love it!

Quiet Town fits very nicely with the concept of the entire album. Its narrative .It’s story telling... It’s Personal. I agree the first 25 seconds of the song are awkward compared to the rest of the song but perhaps that’s the point? I don’t necessarily find the sound upbeat musically. I’m more of a lyrics person anyway . It’s a great song that is raw, authentic and in the end a bit of heart break.

Brilliant, extraordinary song that gets better every time I hear it. It's a tragic story about an event that should never have happened but for the unrelenting force of unbridled commerce that literally forces itself through the heartland of small-town America that mows down hope yet somehow the people prevail. How can something be so sweet on the foundation of tragedy? A summation of life itself. Absolutely amazing lyrics, music, story, everything....

I love this song. It grows on you. A little like Sam's Town but much more calm, mature, true, and a little bit melancholy.

Been a fan since god knows, to me, and I understand this is just me but, I honestly think this is their best work for a long time, the lyrics seep into your soul and the music draws you in, this ones gonna be a classic.

The juxtaposition of happy sounding music with dark and depressing lyrics reminds me a lot of their song Bones from Sam's Town.

I had an existential experience when I listened to this with headphones on in my room in the darkness at night. I've only ever had that with one other song the first time I heard it, and Quiet Town has now joined that. I can't explain where I went to, what I felt, what exactly went on - but it was beautifully magical. Thank you Brandon Flowers.

The contrast between the narration, subject matter, and poppy music is jarring at first but I kind of love it. This song is very Springsteen I think.

The harmonica is fantastic! The contrast between lyrics and the upbeat tune is nothing new to the killers. The whole day and age is like that and also Lonley Town by Brandon Flowers

I just remember Jonathan’s reaction to My Own Soul’s Warning

This song is so much more sad when you realize it’s completely true. Especially hearing from everyone who was actually effected

Oh yeah, oh, no, the train, the train
Every two or three years the train kill somebody
Every two or three years, yeah
Everybody knows about the train, okay?
You hear it constantly
You... I, I think the train is a way to find your way out of this life
If you get hit by it
A couple of kids got hit by a Union Pacific train
Carrying sheet metal and household appliances
Through the pouring rain
They were planning on getting married after graduation
Had a little baby girl, trouble came and shut it down
Things like that ain't supposed to happen
In this quiet town
Families are tight
Good people, they still don't deadbolt their doors at night
In this quiet town
When we first heard opioid stories
They were always in whispering tones
Now banners of sorrow mark the front steps of childhood homes
Parents wept through daddy's girl eulogies
And merit badge milestones with their daughters and sons
Laying there lifeless in their suits and gowns
Somebody's been keepin' secrets
In this quiet town
They know how to live
Good people who lean on Jesus
They're quick to forgive
In this quiet town
Now whenever I'm near the town
I'll find some reason to give
And I will walk with the dead and the living where I used to live
And every time I see my parents in the prime of their lives
Offering their son the kind of love he could never put down
Part of me is still that stainless kid, lucky
In this quiet town
Salt of the land
Hard-working people, if you're in trouble
They'll lend you a hand
Here in this quiet town
The first crop of hay is up
School let out and the sun beats down
Smoke billows from a Sunday train
That cries away from a quiet town

Please read the Town in Nephi, Utah where Brandon lived between the ages of 8yrs to 16yrs old when he moved to Vegas himself to live with his Aunt and Uncle he has great parents though. What you said about this song ‘Quiet Town’ had me thinking 2 way maybe you like it maybe you don’t really like it at all. I a excellent song in my opinion. ‘Pressure Machine’ is an excellent record. Also maybe you won’t like the album at all. We’ll see in the next video of other songs, but the ones who don’t like lots of fans do, but the ones who don’t like the typical Killers music like we have been getting on past records. What a lot of fans do not know or realize is when it comes to the heartland rock influences the fans many will point to Brando Flowers for this. All of the other members love Heartland rock just like Brandon Flowers does. There’s more that just Bruce Springsteen here. You hear Jackson Browne, Bob Seger, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan as well. It does have a tinge of country to it though it not a country album at al but Bruce Springsteen Tom Petty, Jackson Browne Bob Dylan, And Bob Seger music does as well. You also have the folk influences. The album ‘Pressure Machine’ you need to listen to more interview of Brand and Ronnie on this Dave I believe came in while they had already started on it, but he was full on board with what they were doing here. Also some fans like more of the Alternative side of the Killers. Most of the fans who don’t like it really don’t it’s not the first Killers album they don’t. You know the ones who absolutely love a Killers album so much not that they don’t like others, but if the follow up to their favorite Killers album doesn’t sound enough like that one they won’t like the follow even the next one and so on. This album ‘Pressure Machine is very special to me.

I heard this song on CBS this morning 08/28/2021 my birthday, when they played it live. Made me think about a friend who was killed on the train tracks after he was robbed and they lift him on them.Good song but some parts are sad but makes you think.
