Day 6 of Decluttering Before We Move-Medicine Cabinet Declutter and Organization #decluttering

This is day 6 of Decluttering the ENTIRE House before we move. Today I am tackling Decluttering, cleaning, and organizing the medicine cabinet. We are in process of moving out and organizing and Decluttering our home now is going to make the move out clean so much better

You need to keep the use by date on medications.

Please dont store medicine like this. The packaging can be important, too and is often designed for the specific drug. Like keeping light or moisture out. Also, you want to keep the original box for the batch number and use before date. Source: Im a pharmacist.

Medications, especially prescriptions, should be kept in their original containers. The originals have the directions on them; they protect against child access, light, and moisture; and have the Rx number, pharmacy, dr name, date. This method makes them look like candy. Unsafe on many levels.

The pill dispenser is a danger waiting to happen. I wouldn't use that for meds, especially if kids or elderly are in the house.

I would recommend keeping tablets in their original box with the label and the instructions.
Also I would never recommend placing the tablets in a clear container where they can be seen.
As a child I once reached up and grabbed some orange flavour tablets because I liked them, I thought they were sweets. I ate some and luckily they turned out to be vitamin C tablets, nothing more. They were out of sight after that. However, speaking from personal experience, it shows that they can be mistaken for sweets and reached up for. So please ensure all medications are in their original boxes and locked somewhere safe.

Medications, prescriptions or OTC, should be kept in their bottles to protect from the elements. They often help with moisture, sunlight, etc..

You need to have expiration dates on all your medication. And is there a child safety lock?

Vitamins come in a dark container for a reason. But, that is awesome for everything else

For anyone overwhelmed at the thought of decluttering and having to pull everything out, I can highly recommend Dana K White's NO MESS DECLUTTERING SYSTEM. If you are frail, have mental or physical health issues, you can still make progress, without feeling like things have to get worse before they get better. Changed my whole approach - lots of her vids on YTube.

When people are decluttering medications make sure to check your local pharmacy or hospital pharmacy for medication disposal. Our hospital pharmacy has a medication disposal box (looks like a giant mail drop box) outside of the pharmacy. We also include expired vitamins and supplements.

Essential oil in a medicine cabinet it's already a joke on its own

Yeah this is not helpful for anyone that takes medications like myself. You need the original packaging and label for travel, or if you’re hospitalized and they don’t have it on formulary and you need to bring it in, they require all original contents. Not to mention, you just need prescription numbers, refill info, prescribing info… dosage.. I mean I could go on. It’s very important. Not to mention some packaging is designed for the specific medication. Like a bottle that blocks out light. Plus, I’m not sure how safe that organizer is as far as child-safe lids go.

if youre going to transfer meds to a different container, make sure to either take a pic of the expiration date, warnings & instructions or make a second label with those things on it

Everything was excellent until you decided to SWITCH the medicine from their original packaging to that container the medicine is PACKAGE this way to Protect it from AIR and HUMIDITY that container is NOT AIRTIGHT close enough
