You can tell that Willa joined Kindergarten. She brought home the same verses my children learned at that time. Things like " piep, piep, piep, wir ham uns alle lieb".

I'm sure a lot of people have told you already but, in Willa, you have a rather precocious child on your hands! She will be a handful as the years go by, but also always a delight!

I guess the liquorish flavor comes from "Anis" (anise ?) a spice that is often used for Christmas cookies...or/and fennel

Buy "Gewürz Spekulatius" at a small lokal Bakery. It is hard to find good ones but the taste is much better. So if that are your favorites, you will love the handmade ones... I have to send them every year to Arizona :D

Vanillekipferl actually are really easy to make yourself, one of the easiest by far! So I would recommend you bake some (always tastes a lot better compared to store-bought).

The liquorice flavour is most likely Sternanis (star anise). Fun vlog. Willa melts our hearts.

My favourite German biscuits are
1) Spekulatius
2) Sandtaler or Heidesand (taste like shortbread, but are on not hard. They just melt in your mouth).
3) Vanillekipferl
4) Marzipan stollen ..i like the small konfekt stollen

Vanillekipferl should be homemade or at least from a bakery. The factory ones are completely different.

You definitely must also try Christstollen (the original from Dresden). You slice it like bread and eat it with butter. Very delicious and very christmassy.

Oh my... If we had Dominos for roughly $2 here in the States, I'd get is soooo much trouble. Those are my absolute favorites. I'm also a huge fan of marzipan, so that is part of my love for those.

My personal favorite Christmas treats (no specific order): Marzipanbrot, Schokolebkuchen, Kokosmakronen, Schokoladenprinten, Spekulatius, Christstollen (Dresdner Art, with fruits). One small hint regarding Stollen: it can take some time / try and error to find a really good, tasty one. Usually the very cheap ones are not the best. However the highest price does not guarantee the best one either (this is true for other items as well, especially Aldi and Lidl sometimes have cheaper stuff that tastes as good or better than the expensive variety).

please go to your local bakery and buy the "weihnachtsplätzchen" there.. it will be much better than the factory ones..
Also, you need to try a "christstollen" the "dresdner Christstollen" ist the most famous but i think every other will do too. Just slice it as loaf of bread and spread butter on it. Or dip it in your coffee/tea/ hot chocolate. sooo delicous.

6:05 the white thing is called "oblade". It translates to wafer in english but i dont think you can call this a wafer. A oblade is used as a base for many christmas sweets, such as lebkuchen or "kokosmakronen"
