“There was Brexit and there was Trump… we will do the same in France!” This is the claim of Florian Philipott, second-in-command of France’s immensely popular Front National, a far-right party that would secede from the EU. As with other nationalist groups, their aim is to both politically and economically turn their back on the international stage. “Our aim is to stop the globalist march by regaining our sovereignty – monetary, fiscal, territorial – and be the masters of our own fate in France”, explains one supporter. Similar parties are gaining traction throughout Europe, such as the AfD in Germany and the Freedom Party of Austria, but what can account for this global lurch to the right? Some political commentators avoid drawing direct parallels between the socio-political factors that are driving this international movement: “in France the unemployment rate is very high, but there are some countries where populism is very strong and the unemployment rate is very low”. Whatever the exact root of this phenomenon, it presents a great upheaval of the global socio-political structure in the post-war West.

Another re-upload? You guys couldn't handle all the dislikes and negative comments yesterday or what? Yes populism is on the rise because we are sick of liberals and globalists who don't care about their own citizens. First brexit then trump and now we just need Le Pen in France and AFD in Germany to win their elections next year.

Churchill & De Gaul & other European leaders, would NOT like the society that this extreme left views have created. They worked for peace in our times, yes and a united Europe but I do not think they would approve of what we have become- extreme left viewed world of tolerance of EVERYTHING! even corruption & depravity. My grandfather did not died as a young man in WW2 to fight for this type of world, thats why we have an huge increase in so called 'far-right' views now, because people like my grandfather died for peace, security, employment, morals, family values. NOT WHAT WE HAVE TODAY. and the families of war veterans/heros amongst other decent people cannot stand to see another new generation having to put up with a filthy world that we are forced to live in.
WE HAVE BEEN CHEATED!

Why do you call it populism? What kind of sick idea is it to label right wing populist just because it's the right wing? It's just a different view. You can disagree and argue with people about ideas but simply calling them populists is not an argument.

Populism is a good thing. Populist is what every politician should be. A populist stands with the people and does what they want him to do. He stands with the powerless, against the powerful. Long live populism.

it isn't that your vote didn't count we never had a choice to vote for a candidate we believed in
or at least wasn't aided by forces of media and great international forces. our politicians were chosen by people who didn't have our best interest in mind.

I totally desagree with the linguist. I study political correctness, and I think that this has become a real problem within the communication between poltitians and the normal people. The citizens can better feel simpathy for politicians who speak wihtout complexes. That is because political correctness has become an instrument of censorship and an obsacle for the critical thinking.

No. There are too many memories of where it led last time, and too much knowledge of the history. We're not going back to that.

There is a great amount of focus on the rise of right wing populist leaders in Europe and the US but what people seem to not see is that this will more than likely lead to a rise in leftist populism in the developing world.
In Mexico for example since the Trump election there has been a growing feeling that the country should diversify and note rely so heavily on the US economy.
Also that we should return to the more internally focused economic model of the1940s-1970s which actually developed the country rather than free trade which has only benefited a few. These are all trademark ideas of the Latin American left which are really beginning to take hold.
My point simply that it will make for an interesting few years if the global south and global north really do become divided by such sharp political ideas. And you know that are friends Russia and China will be on call to exploit the division.
