Have you tried going scavenger striker same level first week, with only focus on killing troops, even 0% exp and spend little to no gold. Then the last couple days or last half of the season upgrade all your cities, maybe 20 or even just 10 or 5, go recruiter guardian mixed and send your troops split across your cities producing. This way you can get high score with few cities, and you can attack weak players too, where they get lots of exp and you gain lots of gold.
