The mower comes with a mulching blade attached, all those extra slits on the back help mulch the grass into smaller pieces. The blade you got is a high lift blade, made for the side chute or bagger. My mower came with 3 blades and a top blade that is always used with one of the other 3 blades, called X cut or cross cut. The only blade I have used is the mulching and I have not had any issues. The thing with mulching is you need to mow at least 2x a week, maybe even 3x if it's growing fast. Ideally your only cutting 1/4-1/2" off the top of the grass so the small pieces can fall back to the ground. The grass you show here is WAY to tall to mulch, so the blade you were using was not the correct one for side discharge. What was the model number of the mower you purchased? I'm surprised you don't have the upper blade or the extra 2 blades.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I use a regular Libman straight bristle kitchen broom to clean under my mower every time I mow. Do it as soon as your finished mowing, it takes less than a minute, if you wait and let the grass dry it will be much harder to remove. Be sure to remove the battery, flip the mower on it's side and use the broom to clean the grass from under your mower. The long handle of the broom means your hands never get close to the blades. I use the broom then switch to the Ego blower to blow all the dust and clippings stuck to the mower off.
Oh, I also forgot to mention that I applied Nu Finish car wax to the underside of the mower deck, where the blades are, before I every did my first cut. I will be doing this throughout the year, as hardly any grass sticks to the deck and if it does the broom knocks it right off without any trouble.

Year 5 with mine. I recently purchased my third one and given one to my son for Father’s Day. Best purchase ever. I will never use a gas mower ever again.

I've been using the same standard Ego blade that came with my mower 10 years ago. 10 years of doing an acre of mowing with only sharpening the blade once a season. Still cuts perfect.

I’ve had my EGO lawnmower, string strimmer and blower for a few years now, same batteries and me and the wife use them a lot, never had any issues with any of them I stopped using petrol a long time ago and don’t regret it at all.

Thank you for taking the time to help those on the fence about buying a battery-powered lawnmower.
I've used EGO lawnmowers and other tools (blower, string trimmer, and chainsaw) for about 8 years. I have two complaints. Firstly, the battery drains quickly if you use the lawnmower's propelled feature. Secondly, in hot (upper 80s plus) weather, batteries may overheat. And I do mean they get almost too hot to handle with bare hands. And they will not recharge either until they cool off. It will take a while (twenty-plus minutes) even if you allow the quick charger's fan to cool it off.
There may be a safety issue involved too. Hypothetically, of course, as all batteries fail eventually, even leak or explode. But I have not heard of any EGO batteries doing either so far. I just mentioned it as a precaution to change the battery sooner than usual if you suspect overheating in hotter-than-usual weather.
This is my second Summer owning the 10-amp 56-volt self-propelled model with the X blade. I only mulch unless I let the grass get too tall then I must use the bagger and change to the proper blade for it. I have thick grass and the X blade does a wonderful job mulching. I don't let the grass grow too tall or it will bog down the mower, stopping it completely even on the highest setting. Thick tall grass will also drain the battery quickly due to the extra torque required to mulch the thick grass.
BTW, my house sits on a level 3/4 acre and the 10-amp battery has never completed the full lawn: front, rear, and two sides. I have several batteries, so it is not an issue. But if you have a big lawn, use the self-propelled feature, have hills, and just one battery...good luck!

Year two with mine. I have a 10-ah battery and 5.0 ah. I've had zero problems with it and I cut my grass weekly during the growing season.

Appreciate the video! I currently have someone mowing/edging my yard, but I may go back to doing my own yard, and have been looking at battery mowers (I do not want to deal with gas and oil changes again). This was super helpful!

I just bought my EGO mower 5/10/2025. That blade comes as an extra. Yes that blade that came already on and yes it does clog up. So I’m now going to put that extra blade like you just put on now that you solved my problem. Thanks

I have had my ego lawn mower for the last 6 years, I ego came with the blade that is similar to the one you just replaced.
In all those years, I
I hadn't any problems. The only time is when the lawn is wet, it gets stock.
Thank you for sharing your experience.

I've been running my Honda gas mower for over 20 years now. And the reason why I like it is because of the cut. After I'm finished mowing my yard looks fabulous. I'm watching you cut your lawn and I'm not convinced that your electric ego has a good cut. I also bag my grass so we don't track the clippings into the house and it looks as though your ego cannot accommodate a bag. Well anyways I'm glad you like your Ego again after discovering that the blade was at fault.

Thanks for this review. I just became a single momma and never cut grass so not familiar or comfortable with gas so looking into electric. Also I had no idea about stored energy and I do like my fingers so great tip. 😅

Thank you for this review! I just bought one and will be selling my Toro. I'm a girl ~ and now on my own ~ so a combustion engine is not in my wheelhouse. My mower did come with the high lift blade you are recommending. The blade that is on it is for mulching. I will give that try and if I don't like it, I will change the blade and bag. Thanks again!!
