This is a very good effort, but if I understand the concept, it's not quite right. A couple of people were as puzzled as I was when I first viewed it, and commented that the markings were incorrect. I don't think that is what is causing the confusion. I think the outer markings on the compass are correct, because the pilot is always looking at the back of the compass. Thus, when a pilot is heading east, the east marking is on the pilot's side (or west side) of the compass. However, the center of gravity marking on magnet within the compass is backwards. The south pole of the compass would be facing the north pole of the earth because opposites attract. Thus, the south pole of the compass would be experiencing the additional vertical force. That force would pull the magnet away from its natural pivot point and towards the earth's north pole. The pulling force also shifts the center of gravity to the North. Thus, it make sense that the inertia would be greater on the side of the compass magnet facing the earth's north pole (because it's heavier) when acceleration is applied.
