i have several makita 18v batteries for various cordless tools for home use (each probably gets recharged 2-3 times a month) had them for almost 7+ years now and they still seem to keep their full charge and last a while.. 7 years seems like a long time though… question- can batteries that old become “dangerous” or fire hazards? or is the main concern just will they eventually stop holding a charge for an adequate time?

I must be doing something wrong. I bought a set of Makita tools from Home Depot. I also ordered a battery charger and 2 more batteries through Amazon. I received the Amazon order first. I plugged in the unit in my kitchen. The green light came on. I took a new battery and put it in to charge. The fan came on but only for less than 8 seconds. The charging lights alternated between red and green. And continued like that overnight. Not charging the battery at all. I tried to reinsert the battery-same thing. The kit from Home Depot came with the exact same charger. I plugged it in and the ready (green) light came on. I inserted a battery and the fan came on and stayed on and the battery charged. No problem. I took the second battery from the kit and tried it in the Amazon unit. Same as the previous night, red and green alternating flashing. No charging. So I charged both batteries that came with it in the Home Depot kit charger. Is there something I'm missing on the Amazon charger? I even tried a half-used battery from the drill I've been using in the barn. Wouldnt charge. Same lights. The Home Depot kit charger charged it in no time. IDEAS?? Before I have to return it? I bought it so I'd have an extra charger in the barn and could always use more batteries. Thanks. LOVE this video btw. I think my question is just a bit more complicated to be answered by it.
