Why is it when other teams such as Alabama Ohio St and old Miami run up the score the sportscasters say how impressive they are but when Notre Dame does it they're criticized?

I challenge the notion that ND ran up the score. It was 38-3 when the back ups went in. The back ups played the same plays as they absolutely should. They have to eat too. It is not fair to them to ask the to run dive right 3 times and punt. The red shirt formal walk on safety makes an incredible play. 80k people and 50 recruits are excited. He cannot take a knee at the 50 yard line. He did the right thing. Take it to the house!

“It’s not my job to hold the score down. That’s your job”. This was said to Lou Holtz and recounted in Lou’s book after a game c. 1970.

Most sportscasters have shown bias this year, both at the college level and the pro level. I do think they criticize any team that runs up the score. Norte Dame did not need to pass the ball for scores as much as they did. However that speaks to the coach and his philosophy of the game. A weak coach would run up the score to make a point to the pollsters. Run the ball up the middle to keep the clock running and control the game and still win.

Not to play the negative guy here because 52-3 is impressive. But there were some concerns for me coming out of this game. If FSU had a competent QB they could have put up points in this game they ran the ball well and just missed some plays. Leonard struggled tonight with accuracy which is worrisome that being said the receivers also dropped some balls. They weren’t really able to sustain drives for most of the first half and against teams with any kind of offense that don’t turn it over that could have been a dogfight. On positive notes the depth of this team is amazing and the drop off between starters and back ups especially on defense is barely noticeable and they seem to be able to break more explosive plays than earlier in the year which is good especially when you go through stretches when the offense is inconsistent. Overall it’s hard to be too negative about 52-3 but there are some areas of concern.
