Phil and Mike were in the same town for a couple days recently and decided to respond to 10 years of YouTube comments and discuss their video from 2009(!), Calculus Rhapsody. We really appreciate all of the nice comments over the past 10 years. It's crazy how many people have seen the video. If you have a question about the video or us, leave a comment here! I'll try to reply to as many as I can.

A HUGE thank you to Pete Byrne who edited this video.

If you liked this video, you may also like my podcast, How Star Wars Is It?! It's a very silly show where we rate and review different topics on a scale from 1-10 of how similar they are to Star Wars. Topics have ranged from "The Matrix" to pumpkin spice lattes... Check it out wherever you get podcasts!

My AP Calculus teacher showed us this. This video actually helped me in Calculus. It was surprisingly useful. And I will show my students when I graduate in a year and a half! Whether they like it or not it will be a fun goofy thing to show and review topics. I actually used the video in a grad project for a lesson plan because I loved it so much. Thank you!

I'll be honest with you, guys.
Before watching your Calculus Rhapsody video, I was actually already pretty good in maths and in calculus.
But your video actually turned me into a maths-loving nerd to the point that I actually spend my evenings doing calculus exercises just for the fun of it, and that made my grades skyrocket even more!!!

Thank you so much, guys!!

The reason it's still around is pretty simple: it's impressive, well done technically (despite little experience), and no one has improved on it. Math teachers ensure its continued success.

I teach Calculus and showing your video has been a highlight of my class for years! Our favorite part is "Precalculus did not help me prepare for Calculus!" because I have many students for both classes.

you don't even know how many times the "you gotta remember to multiply by the chain" has saved my sorry little ass

Not in calculus, I’m in Applied Geometry but that video is still a bop! Sent it to my friends who are actually in the class.

Late to the party but:
I found Calculus Rhapsody when I was in Year 11, and thought it was the greatest thing ever (also, it taught me what integration was).
10 years on, I teach high school maths and make a point of showing it to ALL my students the second we mention calculus. You both made something really amazing!!!
An important question that has bugged me forever though... when applying the chain rule, what is The Dance that we must not forget to do? I need to inflict it on all my future students!

I’m in the second last year of a university degree in mathematics and I still remember when my calculus teacher in high school showed Calculus Rhapsody to us. It is as much a banger as it was then and indeed was 10 years ago. Congrats on the success and glad to see you’re around and doing well!

No idea why YouTube recommended this 10 years later but surely was a pleasant surprise!

It’s super interesting to see the huge effect something randomly uploaded to YouTube can have!
I will definitely be checking out the podcast btw.
