How Does It Feel to be Stopped and Frisked?

ColorLines spent an afternoon last week in Brownsville. We visited the Brownsville Recreation Center to speak with the young men NYPD’s stops have targeted. According to the NYT, cops use expansive authority for investigating trespassing in public housing as a pretext for many stops, often with the explicit goal of boosting stats showing enforcement actions.

This is an old comment, I know. But that is absolutely not true. I have been detained, handcuffed, searched and driven directly to a crime scene where the victim (covered in blood from a stab wound to the abdomen) looked at me and said "That no him, man. That no him".

The cops drove me home, gave me my pocket knife back and wished me a Merry Christmas. I never expected an apology as long as they're actively looking for the attacker.

Match a vague description and they have to pull you in.

there are a lot of people in prison for crimes that they did not commit.
a lot of arrest statistics are made for political reasons

that statistic might be true. i am not sure i totally believe it. i doubt that historically / predominately black colleges were included in the poll. i hate that statistic.
