Sadly you rehydrated the old cat pee. You can buy a cheap carpet shampooer for $100 or less at walmart, use odorban and hot water. It may take a few times going over it. If there is padding under that carpet, unfortunately, you may have to pull it. I've flipped a few houses where the floors were ruined with cat pee. Good luck ❤

Advice from a professional: You can rent a heavy duty carpet shampooer from walmart, home depot, lowes and the like for not too much money, I've used the service many, many times in my life and it's great, they also have more "every day" carpet shampooers for rent, but in my experience those are better for fresh stains, they dont really do the job for set in issues... It's best to shampoo with your choice of enzyme destroyer (my go to is 50/50 vinegar and water for two or three rounds, followed by "out" brand pet odor eliminator) as many times as necessary for the water to run totally clear, I've used this method in my own and friends homes as well as professionally and it has never let me down. I also use fans and dehumidifiers to dry the floor faster and avoid the potential for mildew smells, once that's done I sprinkle carpet powder and vacuum one last time, it'll smell like new once you're done. You might benefit from keeping a dehumidifier down there to keep on top of any mold. No need for anything fancy; my parents have been using the same one for at least 25 years old and it’s still fantastic at keeping the basement at ~55% humidity in the summer. And as an added bonus, you’ll get a free bucket of water every couple of days. :)

(Note: dehumidifiers and fish tanks usually don’t mix well, so keep them separate and take note about how the air is circulating in the basement if you do use one.)

In order to do it like this, you need to wet it in sections and suck out the moisture right away. By wetting all of it first, you’re allowing the moisture to soak deep into the carpet and into the pad and possibly wood underneath. This will make it smell worse because you can’t suck the moisture out when it’s that deep.

Replace the carpet. You won't get that smell out without atleast a professional level carpet cleaner. It'll just be better to replace it in the long run. When the carpet is out, wash the floor with a vinegar water mixture. Vinegar helps rid the smell of cat pee.

I've done housekeeping, floor cleaning and just took care of my own stuff at home. I HIGHLY suggest paying a pro to do such a large empty space. Those old smells, especially if it's pet, mold/mildew or bodily fluids are a real pain to fully cleared out. At least go rent a rug doctor or something lol.

The concept is really good you just need something more powerful than a Shop-Vac.

You're going to need to replace that carpet because you're definitely getting black mold.
