Toyota Proace Verso Review: When is a van not a van?

It's fair to say that the Toyota Proace probably isn't the most glamorous of vehicles, either in name or appearance, but that doesn't stop it from being very, very good at what it does.

As its boxy proportions suggest, it's based on the Proace panel van, but the addition of seats and windows turns it into a passenger car, in the form of a full-size MPV. Depending on which version of the Verso you go for, you can have up to nine seats, but this top-spec VIP model comes with seven leather-clad chairs that can be tumbled and tilted, slid and stowed in a variety of ways, as well as removed completely for (literally) van-like cargo space. Cars don't come any more practical than this.

But does the Toyota Proace Verso have anything else in its armoury other than untouchable practicality and versatility? To find out, Rebecca Jackson takes a look at the car's quality, practicality, technology, value for money, and of course, what it's like to drive.

Everyone hating on this has no need for it. This is the most spacious car on the market and is a dream for a family that is big. Well done Toyota! ❤ love it!

Seems like a highly capable vehicle for going on biking trips. I would get this for functionality, not looks. As long as it has cruise control, decent handling for its size, and comfortable seats, I honestly couldn't care less about most other amenities.

Practicality is king because, at the end of the day, it's a van and until somebody learns to bend space and time to their will, vans are the only real competition in this area and vans are not sexy. Thanks for the informative video.

My favourite bit was when she said the driving position was a little too "van like"???? IT'S A BLOODY VAN!! 😅😅😅😅😅

At £50k plus you really do need a lot more 'show' to go along with the, ..er.... 'go'. It just looks too bland for the price tag. I don't think that high spec version will sell well, at all.

Most useful van these days specially for people with some active lifestyle (bikers, MTX, surfers etc)...😎🤙

If I was to be persuaded to walk into a showroom and have a look at one of these I would have walked away as soon as I sat in the drivers seat, all that money and not even a digital cockpit.

Can we all have a moment of silence for the lower backs of the crew that had to remove & then reinstall the seats in this vehicle.

Speaking of which, if you need a big Toyota MPV I'd suggest looking at the Alphard or Estima.
Japanese imports but so many are over on our shores it's easy to get parts for.

I would love to see this vehicle available in Australia, either as a grey import or a diesel variant rebadged as either a Peugeot Traveller or Citroen Space Tourer?

I wouldnt say the infotainment is bad. It better than current one. You need a phd to navigate modern infotainment systems. When navigating tje lost radiosignal message constantly pops up and you dont see where to turn next.

I own a Pro Ace Verso. It's Garbage. After 3 years i always get startting issues and problems. Several parts that usualy won't break before 5years are already broken. You'll save 20k approc compared to a proper german brand but i can promise you will spend at least 10k for repairs and such before the car is 5years old.

No way I'd lay down this amount of money on that thing. I'd buy a nice lightly used X5 with 7 seater option for that price

You known something Rebecca? You get more beautiful the older you get. Toyota's pretty nice too.
