An H bridge with 6 MOSFETs drives a Brushless DC motor. The RPM is controlled by how fast you change the polarities of the 3 phase. Small BLDC motors can spin as fast as 130, 000 rpms due to the lack of friction and the fact that permanent magnet rotors are a lot more robust than armatures. You got to make sure you have good back EMF protection such as optocouplers to protect the microcontroller from frying if your doing very high torque applications like an E-bike or extremely high rpm applications such as the Turbo jet fans

I've made a couple of H-bridges using tactile buttons on a breadboard and some wood pieces to connect the buttons physically. It was for a "remote" controlled crane toy. Didn't know what h-bridges were back then (over 8 years ago), only now realizing that is what I made lol.

Add a capacitor in parallel with the motor so the charge won't build up every times it made a turnover or shutting down

I made one with lever switches. One lever for on and off and the 2nd one for chosing direction. I also added a stop button, which basically just shorts the motor. And I made it to onyl short the motor when it's off, so that you can't short the power supply

You can also use a 6 position slide switch.
Motor in the middle, + - on one side, - + on the other.
