Defence was invented on 1848.

The crazy thing is that Wang Hao seems to have an advantage with his backhand too. Most penholders don't like going backhand to backhand against shakehand players but Wang Hao welcomes it

Penhold forehand can give a very high advantage on precison as well as direction where you are hitting the ball.

Perhaps in the old 38mm ball era of single wing penholders with big 10mm thick Jpens on short pips they'd smash it speeds unreturnable but that's so long ago now and the game has changed so much, I don't know if the advantage is there all that much anymore. Sure people will say Xu Xin but then you have Ma Long or FZD and you can't tell me their FHs are any worse. Now a days one just plays penhold if they truly love it.

I don’t think there will be another Wang Hao, Ma Lin, or even Xu xin. The problem with most of this young players is that they have a rather stiff grip that doesn’t seem to provide any form of versatility in how they can play.

Notice how he avoids the backhand at all the costs (even when the ball is so near his body). Thats the weakness

As a backhand dominant player this doesn't matter. Reverse penhold backhand sure is fun to play, but the shake hand backhand is simply superior.

ehh. It is pretty universally agreed that pen hold has advantages in serve and receive due to wrist flexibility. But I don't know about forehand loops and drives. seems even to me.

AS a guy who plays occasionaly penhold This is infact true

The title says "Advantage of penhold....", but in this clip, the penhold guy lost a point against a shakehand guy.

Shakehand is always superior to Penhold

Period

Both are playing forehands corner to corner

The advantage is you grunt louder and distract your opponent

He literally lost the rally so much for penhold advantage.

Then why there are hardly any penhold players in top 10 except Xu Xin? ...

Another misleading title on YouTube. Come on guys, do better.

This is misleading. First of all, having a better forehand all comes down to the individual player, not whether or not they have a shakehand or penhold grip. Secondly, the penhold player lost the point in this video.

I don't see any advantage in fact it was the attempted forehand drive that lost the point
