Last Crusade was the perfect ending with Indy riding off into the sunset. Now I really appreciate that Back to the Future has been left untouched and there's no modern cash grab sequels with that franchise.

Mads Mikkelsen is indeed a true professional. Never seen him at anything less than 100%, no matter if the movie is a masterpiece or a dumpster fire.

Something to be said about Crystal Skull is that, while The Last Crusade ended in sort of a open ended way, with the gang riding to the sunset towards their next adventure, Crystal Skull absolutely put an end to the franchise. Indy got married and retired, with a MINISCULE implication that his son might take on the mantle someday. Like, there's absolutely no reason for there to be a continuation to Indy's saga after that.

One point i would like to add, Helena never interacted with Indy in a truthful, from the heart kind of way, she always had an agenda and was always using Indy in some way.
Contrast her with Marion, Short Round, Henry Jones Sr, even the insufferable Willie Scott or Elsa the Nazi, they all (at some point) interacted with Indy honestly and spoke from their heart. Their interactions seemed organic and real.
But Helena, even when she was pleading Indy to not stay in the past, she still cared nothing about Indy, she just all of a sudden cared about the flow of history.
I cannot care about a godfather-goddaughter relationship if the goddaughter had not showed any hint of her caring about her godfather.

Loved the point about the difference between a franchise ending and a franchise dying. Rest in peace Indiana Jones, you deserved much better than this.

When Jeremy said, "When someone can responsibly decide it's time to end a story or end a character, it becomes something else entirely. It becomes legend. A film series ends by ending. It dies by pathetically hanging on past its expiration date."

All I could think was....man...that hit so hard because that's how I feel about Star Wars at this point.

Indiana Jones is a perfect trilogy and had an epilogue at the wedding scene with Marion. The rest doesn't exist.

1:36 - Wouldn't it have made more sense for Helena (the Phoebe Waller-Bridge character) to be the daughter of Marcus Brody (Denholm Elliott), Indiana's friend and colleague from Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade? I got nothing against Toby Jones - he's a fine actor, but it seems unusual to introduce an old friend of Indy's so late in the game. It would definitely tie the series together that much more.

I'm so sick and tired of seeing Disney write our favorite heroes later in life as broken shells of themselves.

I love what Jeremy says at the end. A film series can end without dying. It almost represents a very human desire to not accept death in reality. So we approach our art the same way. It’s sad really…

i've got to say, I LOVE that they brought back the trope from the original trilogy of 'The movie starts at the end of a previous Indy adventure we haven't seen.'

Every Indiana Jones rankings just comes down to "do you prefer Raiders or Last Crusade more and also do you dislike Crystal Skull or Dial of Destiny more?" Poor Temple of Doom is always gonna be #3

“Cinematic zombies” is a brilliant way to describe what Hollywood is these days.

Crystal Skull felt like a solid ending for the character and I stand by it.

"Cinematic Zombies..." What a great phrase to describe all that is happening in much of modern cinema! Thank you, you have put into two words what I have been feeling about modern cinema. 😢

I think what hurts the most is someone pointed out they totally could have brought back Ke Huy Quan as Short Round to be the sidekick and the one to take up the mantle and I will never forgive them for not doing that.

I think the Rocky movies showed you can successfully resurrect a franchise and even give the hero a dignified send off. Rocky V is pretty much akin to Crystal Skull, except it was worse. But Rocky Balboa resurrected the character properly, and then the Creed movies gave him a very dignified sign off and retirement. But man that is really hard to pull off. I was hoping Indiana Jones could do it, but I guess not.

The older I get, the more I believe it’s better to be a Firefly than a Family Guy. It’s better to go out on top and leave the audience demanding more, than to persist for decades past your prime as a shambling zombie of what you once were.
