June 24 -- The Ratio 8 is an automatic coffee machine that simulates the process of making pour-over coffee. It is nice to look at and it takes the fuss out of pour-over but for $480 is it worth it? Bloomberg Pursuit's Stephen Pulvirent spent a week with Ratio Eight and decided it's probably not time throw out your Mr. Coffee for this beauty.

We frequently get asked this question, so posting here for wider broadcast: This review is based on a first run unit from 2015, and we have made many improvements to the model Eight coffee maker since then. The tank markings are now improved and accurate, and we also have a model starting at $345 called the Ratio Six. Please contact us with any questions!

Using stale, pre-ground coffee when making pour over is like fueling a private jet with the same stuff you put in your Toyota.

Totally disagree. This is a coffee maker I look forward to using every single day. Worth every penny.

Ok so here is my .02. I ordered a Ratio 8 with glass and intended to keep the unit if performance surpassed my Technivorm Moccamaster Grand. The bottom line is it did NOT. Being a form follows function consumer, I felt the appliance was much easier on the eye than my Technivorm. But, we drink our coffee with cream so heat retention is critical or the mug has to go into the microwave for a quick zap. So I brewed 20oz of water with freshly ground coffee and immediately transferred the brewed coffee into a pre-heated airpot. Then I poured my coffee from the airpot into my mug and was subsequently disappointed. If you order this unit, invest in the insulated carafe to reduce heat loss. I know that this adds an extra expense and brings the cost to nearly $800.00. So, for $800, you get a beautiful appliance that is designed and built in the USA and makes excellent tasting but NOT hot coffee. At the end of the day, I'll keep my handbuilt Technivorm that has a capacity of 64 oz and gives me hotter and just as tasty coffee.

Anyone defending this coffee maker has absolutely ZERO coffee knowledge, and is just trying to justify the fact that they spent this much money on a coffee machine. Coffee comes out lukewarm and is room temp in 10 mins, it flows too often and drips too slowly, and it doesn't even provide an even extraction. Rather use a cheap Fetco over this

The Ratio Eight I purchased didn't even last eight months. Then broke a 2nd time a few months later. Is nothing more than a hot water heater with inexpensive parts not up the the task - as all the internal corroded within months. Many other superior coffee makers out there for less than half the price. Don't waste your money on cheap parts / construction, you'll be seriously disappointed !

This might qualify as the biggest rip-off ever seen on YouTube.
