I am 65. I did something similar in my 20s. Just after i got out of the service i bought abandoned rock quaryy in Kentucky. I got 409 acres of and with the old quarry becomeing my 60 acre lake
The land wad all torn up. I started a lawns service and every day brought a truck load of compostable yard waste to the property.
I then had dump truck loads af spent grains from the many distileries mearby.
Started out in a 30 foot camper. Firtst year repurpised an old equipmemtshed to a barn for my equipment. I then bought a portable sawmill and started taking in trees from local services. The second year i was building a house from that lumber.
My garden flurished then aded chicken' rabiitts goats and pigs. I never had a job.
I married in.my fourth year. Fourty years has gone by raising six kids and 12 grandkids on this land.
Keep the faith it is a great life.

Note: Make sure your cistern is elevated above the house site. If the booster pump goes out you still have pressurized water to the house. Pipes from the cistern should start out 3-4" going down to 1" at the house. This will increase the pressure to the house w/out a pump. Large volume of water going through a small space. I'm 64 this month and want to live this lifestyle again.
