This is complete training in the key security settings you need when teaching with Zoom. This is focused on teachers and the 3 stages of avoiding zoom bombing. There are 3 key things you can do
1) Block someone joining your session
2) Limit what they can do once in the session
3) Remove them from a session

12:10 Audio settings
14:19 The Webcam

This video goes through all three stages. This is very hands on and I show you exactly what the impact of the different settings is. You need to look into setting up a waiting room and then allow students to join your room. This is an important first protection when teaching online with Zoom

Another important setting to stop Zoom bombing is to make sure that you know how to remove someone from your class. There are two important things. Make sure you know how to remove them but also know how to stop them returning to the room. This is going to be key.

Most Zoom bombing is around screen share. You have to learn to use the screen share correctly. When you are teaching, you don't need the screen share to be set for your students. If your students are going into a break out room, you can change the setting. If students can't screen share, then zoom bombing is immediately reduced as it means that if someone comes into your room, they can't actually show anything in screen share because you have disabled it. This is key to controlling zoom bombing. If you need to use the breakout rooms, then it is possible to turn the screen share on so that students can share in their breakout rooms but remember to turn off screen share when you stop working with the break out rooms.

It is also vital that you understand how you can control the audio, the chat window and your webcam. Zoom offers a range of ways of controlling Zoom bombing and it is possible to have quite good control over your participants and what they can do online. It is possible for example to turn off student webcams on entry and it is also possible to control the audio. Make sure that students are not able to chat privately too and this is another setting that can be controlled.

If you put these protections in place, people will be very limited in the things they can do when Zoom bombing. They won't be able to use their audio or their video and they won't be able to screen share. This will massively restrict any zoom bombing they try.

They key is to set as many of these settings at the general settings level. You can make these your default settings and then you don't have to worry if you create a room as you always know you have th highest protection against Zoom bombing.

Russell, you do a great job of teaching, explaining and showing . . . I have been watching at least one of your videos per day and I can't thank you enough! All of my adult ESOL classes are now on Zoom as are my Civics and Spanish classes. I could not have done this without your help so THANK YOU!!! Cathy from Virginia

My students don't trust Zoom anymore and are asking me to use Teams. I prefer Zoom, but ... I have to heed the voice of the clients! You explain things so well that you should do the same good job and tackle Teams for adult online courses!

Hi These videos are really useful. They are so concise and help get so much information in such a short time. Thank you Russel for all the great work you are doing.
You talked about Video settings, among others. Is there a way to disable the participants' videos? When I disable the videos, participants can easily turn them back on. Can I control who can turn their camera on? Thanks in anticipation of your reply.

Thanks for this video Russel, I have a simple but important question. I teach in a lower primary level, students do not have ZOOM account, their parents help them to join the meeting and parents' names appear, is there a way of changing participants' names?
Thanks again for your easy to follow the video.

Hi Russell, Q: I am just working with a couple of private students and only tried Zoom Basic. The screen looks different than yours. Do I still have the possibilty of others coming on to my lessons ? I think the directions you gave can be figured out, just a different setting look.

Thank you, Russell. Very informative again. Is it possible to have separate share sreens for each Breakout Room? For example: Give one room a text. Give the other room written questions for that text. The 'Question' room asks the 'Answer' room for answers.

Hi Russell, thanks a lot for the video. I have been using zoom -I have a paid version- for over a year now and was very happy with it. However, I've just received communication from the Spanish police advising Zoom users to uninstall the app as there are lots of security issues coming up right now. What do you think as all my classes are now via Zoom? Thanks a lot!

Hi Russel, I see in your screen shot of the invitation url and password that the password is still only numbers. On my latest update it seems that Zoom had changed it to alpha numeric for improved security I assume. Thanks for your informative videos. Deon.
