I have the absolute most disdain for these STAR interview questions. They throw me for a loop and I'm often dumbstruck thinking up
1) a situation that's relevant, in a job I had previously, searching back years of work experience in my head
2) basic story plot
3) spinning it in my favor

My best responses are usually 100% fabricated because I can't think of a "time when [ridiculous scenario]" - but sometimes I can't even make up a fake story to answer to the question at all so I'm just left pausing for 10 seconds then saying "that's a great question, but I can't think of a specific time when [ridiculous scenario]. Terrible look in a job interview and I rarely get to the next step. I'm convinced it's impossible to answer these without hours, weeks, or months of preparation and going through dozens of different scenarios that you could be asked by an interviewer. The thing that I notice is that it's only HR that asks these questions. Hiring managers ask normal questions that are relevant to you, the company, and the job. I'm just frustrated because of how poorly I usually answer these STAR questions. Regardless of my personal frustration, this was a great video. Thanks for the advise. I'm working towards getting a few of these answers ready-to-go so I won't look like a fool next time I inevitably get asked one.

I had a job interview today at macys omg! I rumbled sooo much trying to answer behavioral questions. I took courage and asked the "hesitancy question" on the first interview with the direct manager for the role and the answer was "Nothing, you did great". What do you do when you can't think of anything though? That's the issue I have. Even researching the questions in advance, or even after the interview is over, this me, "Uhhhh, I got nothing. It's never happened to me." "Tell me about a time you had to make a snap decision at work and what happened after it". Me, "Uhhh, it's never happened". Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult co-worker". Me, "What kind of horrible places have you worked that this is even a question?! I've never had that problem." Most of the time I literally just invent a story (lie) because otherwise I'm stuck with either it's never happened to me, or I can't remember a time when that's happened to me.
