Corporations hate them. Cheap, functional, and efficient.

Banning Kei trucks being "unsafe" is ridiculous. They're over 25 years old which means they're exempt from safety regulations, emissions, etc. Its no different than than driving around in a classic car

Motorcycles are jam packed with safety features!

considering how some cars in the USA look, like the frame is rusted, wheels and suspension are not attached to the frame, brake lines that have been pinched together with pliers because they are leaking. no brake pads left, brake discs completely worn away. and much more. so I see that Kei truck is probably safer than the 10% that would be on the scrap.

As a Canadian I have seen no modded Kei trucks but PLENTY of Kei trucks just being used for.. trucking. People are hungry for actually useful vehicles, but all they're given is the newest SUV/pickup meld with a bed the size of a Tonka truck, a chassis the size of an RV, and a price that needs a house-sized mortgage, no wonder they get imports

The government doesn't give a F about safety.

Utility vehicles that cost as little as $12000 brand new and have 30% less power than the conventional trucks but with way less weight - they don't want the lower class having access to Utility vehicles

They're perfectly fine. The American auto industry lobbied hard to keep them out

Anytime a government or corporate entity states something is unsafe it’s rarely because they’re genuinely concerned about human life. It often has to do with bottom lines and losing financial gain.

Kei trucks are a perfect response to the crazy luxury truck problem we are in. Replaces all the luxury with functionality all for a price that brings trucks back to the common man.

So by this logic, should we ban motorcycles too? Cuz I’d rather get hit in a kei truck then on a bike

That trucks is so useful here in the Philippines, it is not unsafe as long as you do not use to race it, just be aware of its limitation and it will serve you well.

They’re perfectly safe, Georgia got tons of money to ban them through lobbiying.

It just proves that you don't need that 90k big truck when this little truck works just fine

Banning them is not about safety at all, it's about the American "Kairetsu" of auto makers grouping together because they're scared that nobody wants their 6 figure trucks that get crappy mileage.

A Kairetsu is a group of companies that are supposed to be competing against eachother, but they still group together to block outsiders from gaining entry into the market.

The same thing happened to Tesla until they finally got too big to be blocked.

Look up the "chicken tax", its the real reason the trucks are being restricted, if a farmer needs a small truck thats actually practical they'll buy one that fits their needs. American companies said "admins too hard, fix" and now they dont need to sell small trucks. Combined with cafe light truck exemptions = boom can only buy huge trucks now, small ones literally illegal. Law makers pointing the blame to safety and not bribes.

Modern american pickup trucks that are bigger than WW2 tanks are A-OK but god forbid a kei truck hits the road.

Big Truck companies fear being out of business if this is common.
For example, lets say you are a Carpenter/Woodworker/Plumper and you go from house to house to fix things and there are handy tools and equipment you need with you all the time.
So you go and buy a pickup truck but its expensive since you are starting out so this truck is perfect for that scenario.
1.Its not at all expensive (Even cheaper if made locally)
2.Its Got a tiny Footprint (Makes it easy to park at smaller places without taking up the whole road)
3.Its very fuel efficient so you can save a lot.
4.Taking about safety You don't need to drive this thing more than 50mph and this is more safer than driving a motorcycle that's for sure.(if motorcycle can be ridden at 200+mph then this safety is more than enough. You can improve its safety by making it after and designing it to be more safer.

As a person from developing country, I can ensure you guys that these things are hella efficient for what they had been designed for. 350kg(771lbs) payload might not be enough for everyone but you can always go for 1.5 liter or larger engine that have load capacity from 850kg (1873lbs) to 1250kg(2755). They are mostly safe at low speed (below 50 mph) and can handle some low speed crashes.
