This is the last of several tries to make a good working cutter (sometimes called a knife) for my CNC wood lathe. I think I got it this time!

Boy, grinding those cutters is an art! I'm glad I can buy bits for my CNC. If I had to grind my own, I'd be lost!

Prototyping is a repetitive process of refine and try. As you keep thinking it thru, you will develop a cutter that should lead you as close to “zero sanding” as is possible. You are the man for that job so I’m confident you will get there. I see Windsor rocking chairs in your future. 😎👍👀

8:55 might be an optical illusion but is your cutter not on center? It looks like it's above center.

That’s amazing Winky. Incredible Job on Building your own Wood CNC. It would be hard to find a Machine that does better than what yours does. Very nice. The HSS Bit you made looks like it works perfect👍

Looks like you finally figured out how to do the grind. Have you considered mounting a spindle instead - a dremel, palm router, or something you make yourself? Then you can choose from a variety of router bits or endmills as cutters.

04:19 Looks like what we always called a Pine Cone profile on that burr.

Can you program the toolpath so you are always cutting downhill? Usually )by hand) you don't move your chisel uphill because of the tendency to dig in. I know your tool is not handheld but I think it might give a cleaner cut.

Will a parting tool with a flat nose just like a handheld parting chisel not work?

Hi Winky you could try and make yourself an "round insert" out of 01 drill rod you could make it to any diameter you like and deep "countersink"it and drill it to suit
a small machine screw and make a suitable tool holder for it. I like your way of thinking for a lot of things love the vids keep it up, , , Bob

Hi winky what about trying a parting off tool dont know about the lateral forces though but the parting insert has some back rake?

Could you add a auto feeding to make work faster ?

Can't you modify a parting steel?
