I didn't pick up on this when I was a teenager watching this for the first time, but Cory actually has the hots for Shawn lol. The idea of Shawn as a girl probably fulfilled one of his big fantasies - he can have his bromance but actually get some action too because it's a girl. They made the bromance more obvious in Girl Meets World with jokes that Shawn was his favorite person and Topanga was just his wife lol.
