10 years at Scuba Sur

Ten years ago, on April 1, 2015, my wife Anita and I embarked on a life-changing adventure. At the age of about 50, we left behind the comfort and familiarity of our old lives to step into the unknown. We bought a dive centre, despite having no experience in the dive industry, and took a leap of faith into a world of challenges, discovery, and growth.
From the very first day, this journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. We’ve faced a whirlwind of emotions—happy and sad days, moments of calm and days of stress, as well as victories and setbacks. We’ve learned to meet ourselves in new ways, discovering our inner strength and resilience as we navigated the complexities of running a business in this beautiful, unpredictable world.
The challenges were many. From tackling the steep learning curve of the dive industry to enduring the heartache of Covid-19's impact and even witnessing our dive centre burn down—each experience has been a test of our determination. We’ve had spirited discussions with dive associations, made difficult and at times harsh decisions, and weathered storms we never saw coming. But through it all, we have grown, adapted, and built a life we are proud of.
As we look back on these ten incredible years, we are filled with gratitude. It has been the people around us who have made this dream possible. The friends, colleagues, divers, and supporters who have come and gone over the years have all left their mark on our journey. To each and every one of you—your kindness, guidance, and encouragement have been instrumental in shaping the story of our dive centre.
Today, we celebrate not just a decade in business but the life we’ve built together in sunny Gran Canaria. We are still living the dream we dared to chase more than ten years ago, and we do so with joy in our hearts and hope for the many years yet to come.
To everyone who has walked this journey with us, we extend our sincerest thanks. This achievement is as much yours as it is ours. Here’s to the next chapter and many more adventures ahead!
