I am a Korean girl who lives in Australia. I was so confused when Australians told me that I am attractive and good looking all the time when I came here 10 years ago. (I have very “Asian” look, like Lucy Liu)

I grew up hearing only the flaws of my look from other Koreans (you should get your eye done, nose done, your head is too big, you are only good looking from your back etc. etc.). I feel confident about my looks living in Australia as people don’t obsess with looks over here as much, but every time I visit Korea, I feel self conscious again.

So true, as a Kpop fan I realized how all the most popular "visuals" looked so similar to each other. They also have all have features that make them look more "gentle" or "feminine" in Korean norms. Also the whitewashing is so prevalent. A lot of idols' predebut/childhood photos show that they were a bit dark-skinned before debuting

True!!! My daughter went there. She was in the US Army. And she said that the bias is obvious. It’s sad really.

As a korean american, I HATE THIS BEAUTY STANDARDS! Literally no one looks unique because everyone looks the same! They wear the same clothing, makeup, hairstyles, etc! Honestly this is why I like the US so much. The diversity and different fashion styles and culture lets everyone shine and look unique! If you are planning on going to Korea, especially with dark skin, prepare to get a lot of stares like you just came from space :(

The range on their standard of beauty is so tight, no wonder most of the korean idols are all looks similar to the other 😂😂

I am Korean living in Seoul and I just stopped giving shits about what other ppl think .. It’s less tiring to do so.. Also I want to point out that not everybody dresses up sharp and tries to appear attractive all the time. Simply not true

Listen, if you go to SK understand that as a foreigner you might not meet any of their beauty standards. Its a homogeneous society with a very small percentage of western foreigners living there, it aint Canada nor US.
Mind your business, love your beautiful self, fuck local beauty standards (they are not for you anyways) and enjoy the food.
PS. The best part of SK is the food, no tipping culture, the kind elders, safety and their transport system (except the 12am curfew, but we stand). Make sure to bring basic korean with you so you can make friends and meet people in your field if you are studying 😉
Also, leave your kdrama daydream back home, SK is no kdramas, and no oppas nor idols are flooding them streets 😅😊

I live in the US, and here, the standard has always been, to be tan, skinny (but still have "assets"), have dark brows and lashes, and be shorter (actually it depends on where you go here, but where I am, every girl wants to be shorter).
I am natural blonde, so I remember when I was younger, trying to darken my eyebrows and use my mother's mascara 😅. I've always been quite tall so I would never wear heals. I have super pale skin, but would stay outside all day and try to darken, but instead would burn myself.
Luckily, now I accept myself, but my point is that every place has beauty standards, that many people cannot fill. Some places, like East Asia can be much stricter about it, or more influencing...
I just hope, that one day, everyone can just accept themselves for who they were born to be, not what society has chosen for us to be.
*Don't let the world change you, when you were born to change the world ❤️🌏*

Which is insane cause here in America you can look so many different ways, different shapes and proportions and features and colors, and be considered beautiful. Which is one the things I love the most about here, it’s not “one size fits all”(I know there is an overlaying social standard, I’m saying in general)

I remember when it was easy to tell a KPOP group apart from the other, Big Bang, SHINEE, SUJU, 2NE1, now they have 9 to 13 band members, dressed all alike, same hairdo, dancing in sync and most of them with the same (plastic surgery) facial features. Its very difficult to tell them apart and most of them looked very different and a lot darker in predebut photos and videos

I'm Southeast Asian and it's very hard to limit weight of 50kgs. I once have that weight during my teenage years. Now I'm around 55-56kgs.

As a Korean living in Korea, I have been stressed out about the beauty standards all my life. It is strict and toxic, and I'm not even close to that standards. Ppl are very judgemental and harsh. BUT not everyone is like that (at least not me😂) so please don't look at ALL the Koreans negatively. And if anyone comes to SK, I just wish you guys to enjoy as much as you can.

Silly standards, 99% of Koreans dont fit in, and this Is similar everywhere, in Europe too standards are hight and many cant fit without surgery and similar
