This afternoon, President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol announced his nominee for Justice Minister a former colleague, who like Yoon, is a former prosecutor.
That's Han Dong-hoon.
And for his chief of staff, Yoon named Kim Dae-ki, an official with substantial experience in a previous administration.
Yoon Jung-min reports.
President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol has nominated senior prosecutor and his former colleague Han Dong-hoon as the first Justice Minister under his incoming administration.
Announcing his latest Cabinet nominees on Wednesday, Yoon emphasized Han's 20 years of expertise in the legal field, including investigation, trial and prosecution.
"I believe he is the right person to modernize the administration of our legal system and to establish a judicial system that meets global standards."
When asked whether he'd made a surprising choice, Yoon disagreed, stressing Han's expertise and his ability to speak English fluently.
Han worked closely with the President-elect in the past, both of them as prosecutors who led a number of investigations into corruption involving large conglomerates and politicians.
During the former Park Geun-hye administration, Han was involved in probes into influence-peddling by Park's confidant Choi Soon-sil.
Yoon and Han locked horns with the current Moon administration over its probes into scandals linked to former Justice Minister Cho Kuk and his family.
Currently, the ruling Democratic Party is seeking to pass a bill to completely strip the prosecution of its power to conduct investigations, a move which is likely to face pushback under the Yoon administration.
For his first presidential chief of staff, the President-elect has picked former presidential official Kim Dae-ki.
"He is an expert on economics and has a sense for politics. He's the right person to successfully manage affairs of state based on his years of public service and a lifetime of experience."
Kim previously served as senior secretary for economic affairs... and chief of staff for policy under the Lee Myung-bak administration.
"Along with the President-elect, Prime Minister nominee Han Duck-soo was also present at the announcement.
And more nominations are likely to come soon,... at which point preparations for confirmation hearing will speed up.
Yoon Jung-min, Arirang News."
