I just came across this. Thank you so much for this. I am a father that loves to teach my children. I like the easy listening direction you give as with your experienced knowledge. I look forward to seeing all your videos and tricks. As I look forward to taking this and teaching my children. Thank you again.

Very interesting video, thank you. I´m in Andalucia, so I have both almond and olive trees, amongst others. I´ve not tried carving almond yet, but using almond oil, (rub it with a nut ?) sounds a good plan. I carve olive spoons, and use olive oil, baked in an oven which will give them a lovely dark finish if left in long enough. A good burnishing is also important.
I also use olive oil on leather motorcycle clothing, shoes, belts, satchels etc, and in many years it has never EVER gone rancid, even in the heat of summer, so don´t be put off -- after all there´s some olive oil in almost every kitchen.

Thank you for sharing...I'm new to carving and using wood stains worries me...this is definitely safer. Thanks again!

See I wouldn't have ever thought of getting almond because it's the lightest. I have been looking for an oil to stick as close to the wood color as possible. Thank you, that was the biggest thing I learned.

This really helped me. I found a wood chip that looks exactly like a T-Rex tooth, like just perfect. And i wanted to give it a finish, but a natural one. I tried this bath method and it turned out amazing! but i am wondering if i can give it an extra wax finish just to seal the deal? Thanks you, great video!

Great watch, and informative to a complete novice. Can I ask where do you buy oils from, struggling in local modern hardware stores in UK. Cheers

Thank you. Will this technique work for wooden beads for making jewelry/malas?

Is there a reason you don't use mineral oils (the food grade type)?

Hey woodcraft hamster! im wondering how long you let the spoons "dry" until you use them ? im testing some linseed and walnut oil finish on mine, letting them dry for about 1 or 2 weeks but as soon as the get their first use (mainly soup!^^) i find the oil mostly goes away (is that normal?)
