I personally think that being strong make grace possible, because then you can have more freedom to explore movements.

Another excellent video with great tips Julie. I have been called out in class for being too "choppy" and not fluid, but have never really been shown what I need to do to correct this. I have never considered myself graceful and I wish I could, but I think this video is just what I need to help me get there. Thanks!

This was lovely and I certainly have not been keeping up with graceful strength lately. I also keep reminding myself that ballet has a history that was only dance d by early renaissance of aristocratic society and think regal and noble.

Gracefulness is about fluidity. The sea is the one place on earth where life is very graceful no matter what.

Thanks for your advice. You're a fabulous teacher. In order to look more graceful, I prefer to not lift my shoulders (7:16).

This is so helpful, thank you. I am learning ballet but have also done several years of adult dance classes. I try to engage my core to get the controlled movements but often wonder why my shoulders and neck are so floppy. I’m going to practice isolations. I’ve also been looking at some of your videos to practice my ballet during lockdowns. Your explanations are brilliant. I’m in an intermediate ballet class (there was no beginners) in real life (before lockdown) and I am constantly lost in class. I prefer to practice, practice, practice a step to get it right and now I can with your videos. So thank you so much 🙏

Also sorry if I spelled that wrong-

This is an excellent explanation. In a tango dancer struggling to look more smooth. There are some people with much less technical ability than me but still look more smooth and graceful. Have not been able to figure it out. Was thinking that I need to perhaps move slower as someone else mentioned and am now glad to read that this is not it. Was also thinking that I need to have more control over each little movement of the muscle but I fear that this will create tension and stiffness. I think the problem is that it looks like I'm moving my leg on it's own and I am not originating the movement from my core. How do I move a leg starting from the core? Maybe all leg movement has to originate from the hip? The knee and foot move only as a wave emanating from the hip? Are there leg specific exercises to practice this? I can do hip isolation well but I can't get it to roll down to my knee, ankle and foot.

My friend said something similar. That I need to separate my lower body from my upper. But I can’t get it down.

Hmmm this kinda makes sense. But I feel like I need. Part 2. I have a friend that move stupidly smooth. Even running he looks likes he’s gliding. Does he start the movement from his glutes then?

I started ballet about a year ago and I CANNOT watch myself dance. I look awkward and jumpy and I just don"t know how to fix it, how can I practice being graceful??

Hi I'm watching this for basketball to be smoother and does being graceful consist of doing everything slow or relaxed or am I missing something in my understanding?
