Here's Why The Porsche Taycan Is Likely Faster Than Tesla Model S
The Porsche Taycan Turbo S may be quicker than Porsche claims.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S has a claimed 0-60 of 2.6 seconds, and a top speed of 161 mph. The Tesla Model S Performance has a claimed 0-60 of 2.4 seconds, and a top speed of 163 mph. Well that settles it, the Tesla is faster, right? Not so fast. When you start to look at the two vehicles drivetrains, you'll find the Porsche might actually have an advantage as a result of the transmission.

The Taycan has two gears for the rear axle, and a single gear for the front axle. The rear gear ratios are 15.563 for first, and 8.05 for second. The front axle also has a gear ratio of 8.05:1. To see which vehicle is faster, we'll need to see which can put down the greatest wheel torque, as well as which has the most grip.

So as it turns out, Top Gear had a drag race between Taycan and Model S, and their VBOX measured 0-60 was 2.68 for the Tesla, and 2.61 for the Taycan. Obviously road conditions limiting the launch, but still over 1 g acceleration. For me, it’s super cool to see why this happens, and that the numbers line up (traction will generally be the limiting factor in these comparisons, which is why it’s critical for the two cars to be tested at the same time on the same surface). You should make a video about why wider tires would increase grip. At first is seems trivial, but if it's all about normal forces and the coefficient of friction, then the surface area isn't included in that calculation. I know that there's more to it than just that, hence why I think it could make for an interesting video. (wider tires increase the coefficient of friction even if the materiall stay constant?)

The Taycan is indeed faster, they have been drag raced by several different people already.
1. Porsche is usually conservative with their 0-100 km/h times. Plenty of people already got quicker times than 2.6s.
2. Tesla cheats in their 0-100 km/h times by doing them with a rollout.

Math checks out.. but why the 0-60 discrepancy between what the two companies are reporting? Is Tesla reporting a rollout time and Porsche isn't? You would think Tesla's number would be higher than Porsche's and Porsche's would be less than Tesla's.
