As someone who selects tree species to be planted in urban environments, I find this commercial very misleading. First, one of the main reasons behind tree selection when it comes to sex is based on fruiting. Fruiting trees often cause large amounts of litter on sidewalks, cars, etc. Ever parked under a tree to find your car later covered in sticky fruit droppings? Not fun. Also, the dropped fruit rots on the ground which can lead to unsavory smells that can be repulsive. Ever been near a fruiting ginkgo tree? You'll want to rip your nose off! For these reasons we opt to select "non-fruiting trees." This is not some old archaic decision made by sexist white men, as the vintage footage seems to suggest. Which by the way, looked like city planners reviewing urban zoning limits, not selecting tree species 😂. This is a choice still commonly made to this day. We do consider people with allergies! For example, tree species that produce a ton of pollen are avoided as well, because excessive pollen is also litter and causes allergy problems. So in the end we are generally selecting non-fruiting trees, while trying to avoid trees that produce excessive pollen. Throw in that we have to consider maintenance, leaf litter, hardiness, habitat, root behavior ECT. ECT. We have to balance a lot of pros and cons for each tree and how it will affect the community and surrounding environment. This is not some botanical sexism rooted in oppressing people with allergies. We are trying to find the best tree for the spot while considering and balancing a hundred conflicting needs.

It very much depends on what types of trees are in your area. Some areas naturally or by city planners have issues like the ones cited in the video others do not because the trees are already diversified.
IIn trees, sex exists beyond the binary of female and male. Some, such as cedar, mulberry, and ash trees, are dioecious, meaning each plant is distinctly female or male. Others, such as oak, pine, and fig trees are monoecious, meaning they have male and female flowers on the same plant.

As someone who works at a tree farm that provides thousands of trees to cities and neighborhoods in Texas this is complete and total BS. The only thing that yhe planners and companies that plant them care about is if the tree is healthy and the size of it.

Cities have planted more boy trees than girl trees, because girl trees leave seeds and fruits all over the place and look less aesthetically pleasing.
