I really think it is inappropriate for anyone to comment on the Hadiths unless they have studied Hadith sciences or similar and have years of specialisation in specified fields...of course Dr.Ally is widely read and very knowledgeable.

How true what brother Shabir Ali says. The hadith by its nature is assigned (by all hadith collectors) degrees of probability of being true. Some can be used, and others can be discarded.

However, if you follow thoughts being expressed currently, there are Muslims who believe that hadiths are also revelations and have the same force of authority. To justify this view they quote various verses regarding the speech of the prophet e.g.
Surah 53. An-Najm, Ayat 2-10
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ 2 “
وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ 3
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ 4
عَلَّمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَىٰ 5
ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَاسْتَوَىٰ 6
وَهُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَىٰ 7
8 ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ 9
فَأَوْحَىٰ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَىٰ” 10

2. “This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded,
3. and neither does he speak out of his own desire:
4. that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired –
5. something that a very mighty one has imparted to him:
6. [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature,
7. appearing in the horizon's loftiest part,
8. and then drew near, and came close,
9. until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer.
10. And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal.”

Those who claim that hadiths are also revelations quote the third verse i.e. Muhammad does not speak out of his own desire. They ignored the rest of the verses. Here, Allah describes how revelation came to Muhammad. The early Muslims go to great lengths to differentiate the messenger’s ordinary speech from that of revelation in the way it he received it. I cannot understanding how one can equate hadith with rvelation i.e. Quran

We can never put hadith and quran, since quran is the word of God and Muhammad (SAW) was sent just to reveal the quran to mankind and not hadith.

Let the Quran speaks:

[41:52] Say, "Have you considered - if it [the Qur'an] is from Allah and you are ungrateful with it, who would be more astray than one who is in extreme opposition?"
[41:53] We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it [the Quran] is the truth. Is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He has knowledge over all things?

[6:115] And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can alter His words, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
[6:116] And if you obey majority of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah. They follow not except assumption, and they are not but falsifying.

I thought hadiths came from the prophets independent reasoning.
His teachings.
Are hadiths related to the prophet through wahi(revelation)
In the same way Quran is?
