Brand New Mavic Air 2 CRASH | An Embarrassing Damage Review

Yep, I crashed my DJI Mavic Air 2 only two days after opening the box and it doesn't look good. Let's review the damage and see if we can figure out what happened. I still believe it's a super easy to fly drone, by the way. I just made a stupid and embarrassing mistake...

Sorry to hear that. Flying it while it is pointed toward you is one of the hardest things to do and takes a lot of practice. Have you tried flying it in SPORT mode? This is supposed to disable the front sensors and might make it flyable again. If you do try it and have any success, please let me know.

I crashed mine 4 days in but I have Refresh so I’m thankfully flying again with a replacement. I went to a soccer field to try the auto modes but it was bordered by trees, and I apparently can’t estimate distances at all. On the helix pattern I flew it sideways into a tree. Hint: it gets really wide as it circles. Anyway I had panicked and didn’t know how to stop it. Made the crash worse. What i learned after is to hit the RTH button (quick press, don’t hold down which is what starts an RTH) which pauses it mid flight. Works for manual and autoflight, landing, anything, like an instant “just hover” command. then you can plan out the correct responses to take. I have used it a lot with the replacement drone so it is second nature. The trouble is if you see your drone flying in a bad way, looking at your phone in sun and while freaking out, you won’t make the right call. The pause is super helpful. I felt terrible too. I’ve seen many people make similar mistakes. DJI will get you fixed up and flying again soon!

Had to crash my mavic air 2 yesterday to find this channel, i crashed it 4 times already and i was like : "i will keep this drone as my eyes " ...fortunately got just scratches and is still flying ... subbed

I did almost the same thing except I flew mine in to about the 25th floor of a very tall building. Like you I thought it may have been the wind but after reviewing the telemetry I saw that it was me giving forward stick inputs which forced it to override the obstacle avoidance. I heard it make hit and watched in horror as it fell.

I've owned my MA2 for 10 days, also my first ever drone.

Your biggest mistake is choice of location. People always think lower and closer is safer. But it is crazy that you took off for your maiden flight beneath a tree. The Air 2 has no sensors on top or the sides. Your home takeoff location is also way too confined.

For my first few flights, I took off from the roof of a 30 storey apartment building and stayed at a height where it was physically impossible to hit anything. It might look scary to be so high up, but it is much much safer in practice.

I got this drone a week ago and crashed it yesterday. This thing is as sturdy as a tank but I crashed it into a three about 60 feet up and I swear it hit every single branch on the way down and it took it like a champ, except for the gimbal... It is flimsy as heck and the whole thing got ripped clean off. Sending it in for free warranty tomorrow, looks like everything will be alright.

That’s a bummer!! Easy to make I guess, it’s the old opposite controls when facing. But as said when in a quick panic you just instinctively press it!! Hope u got DJI 😳

Latest firmware update disables side way flying, you have to re-enable sideways flying and accept responsibility for accident like this. Are they accepting liability for these side way accidents? I don't know.

If it detects obstacles around. In might do unexpected automatic movement. So u can switch to sportmode in tight space like that to stop that automatic movement. And it doesnt have side nor top sensors to stop crashing that way. I almost crash mine this afternoon 😅. The lesson I got from this video for a beginner : Even for a small reason like trying some features like you mentioned, if it involves the drone to take off the best and safest place must be wide open space until you really comfortable with the controls. Just imagine if it was in your room, hall or kitchen when the accident happened! Anyway thanks for sharing at least I learnt from you 1 way of how not to fly a drone 🙃. No need to tell you what you did wrong. Reverse manoeuvres are tricky and happen quickly. Try an open school yard next time with no walls. Take off is easy manoeuvring not so much. Better luck next time. Will be interested to see how DJI responds.

Got the Magic Air 2 three weeks ago. My first drone so my confidence in flying isn’t great. First thing I did was get DJI Refresh. Since you need to turn one in to receive a replacement, I also have State Farm for $70/yr. covers damage, thief and flyaways.
