Some companies testing out 4-day, 10-hour work weeks in Detroit

The average person puts in 40 hours a week over a five day work period, but now, companies are exploring the option of four day work weeks with people putting in ten hours a day.

I work 4/10’s and love it. Been working this schedule for 3 years now. I work for the county maintenance. We travel to the lake more now. I don’t want to see this end. I used to work 14-15 hr days sometimes 2/3 days straight, did it for 22 years.

This is as good as rebates. Still putting in the time and the extra day off is used to catch up on the things you couldn't do on those 4 days.

I am for the 4-day work week, but 8 hours a day should still be the norm. They could look at a give and take and go to 9 hours. Employees would go out more on a 3-day work week travel more and boost the economy more.

People who bring up the 10 hour a day idea still don't get it. The point of a shorter week is to give people more time, not distribute it within 4 days. It's also bad for humans to over exert themselves in one day, 10 hours is too much (which is defeating the purpose).

4 days, 8 hours a day is where it's at.
32 hours a week is ENOUGH work, especially if you work in crappy repetitive jobs. But of course in the USA you're going to get the pushback because the big elephant 🐘 in the room is having to raise wages. Now cut the red tape and the BS and get this done now, not in 2 years, not tomorrow, not after breakfast, NOW.

Big plus are the 3 day weekends. Working 10 hours a day can be beneficial or suck depending on the job.

This should be mandatory! In marketing class professor said the 80 percent you do is always wasted only 20 percent of what you do is the most productive works.

The problem is a lot of jobs are using the 4-10s as false advertising to get people to come work for that company they did it to me twice

3 days off is ideal. 1 day to run errands 1 day to spend time with family friends and have time for yourself. And 1 day to prepare for work the next day of work.

The only issue have kids 10 hours a day so 8 hours of sleep and 6 hours of family time

How about 4 day 8 hours? Why can’t we have 3 days off? Why can’t that be the new norm? I feel like productivity would sky rocket if they allowed people to rest more

What people have to understand though its 10 hour days 4 days a week is okay if the job isnt demanding if the the job is taxing a 10 hour day vs an 8 is day and night and that extra day of aint gonnna feel any longer then the 2 days even though it is.

10-hour shift's are a disaster for mental health and society. 5 days work, 9am until 4pm, 7 hours a day, 35 hours a week is the limit to human capacity.

Do these people know what it's like to stand on your feet 10 to 12 hours a day? I've done both 10 and 12 hour shifts and they're rough. I can't imagine doing a 10 hour shift for 4 days straight and then having 3 days off. Maybe it would work for cubicle jobs where you're sitting down but not for any kind of standing job.

I work 9 to 530 I get home at like 630pm. My day is sucked up I'd prefer 32 hrs a week for the same pay as an 5/8. But with that shxtty time I would rather work a 4/10 and get an extra day off that I dont have to take out of my vacation. It works better for someone like me with the time I have to work should be optional. They cry about not being able to keep track but mfs have no problem balancing part time with full time.

i work 3.5 days a week. Most moms i know do that. I get to see my kids more often
