Still feels weird there was never a Mario Kart on the NES, like theres some Mandella effect reality where there was :D

Everyone hates it for it's difficulty but Days of Thunder is actually a very good game. Great 3-d graphics without flickering, slipstreaming other race cars to sling past them, pit stops that takes true skill to master, good music. It's very underrated.

Formula One: Built to Win is an awesome, but underrated game. Almost no one talks about it.

Nigel Mansell's World Championship graphics are outstanding for an NES. I will buy a cartridge right now!

Nostalgia may be clouding my judgement as it's the only racing game I owned back in the day, but I put Galaxy 5000 as #1. Such a good combination of racing, using items, a jump mechanic, decision making (how much to repair the car).

#1 is absolutely right ! That game is as fun today, as upon it’s release. It does not age. AT ALL !!!! The true mark of a masterpiece.

I have to put original radio racer at number 1. It has faster feeling game play, better sound, better music, better controls, and better graphics. Part 2 did have the better ending theme though.
I would have to put tc pro and in 2nd followed by formula 1 1990 which seems to be a rad racer 1987 clone with a mix or rad racer 1 and 2 elements.

Rad Racer and R.C. Pro Am for the win. Wasn’t a great fan of racers but those 2 games were always good fun.

Watching a lot of videos like this, you start to develop a feel for which games were popular outside the US vs among Americans. And Micro Machines is one of those franchises that comes up among British reviewers. And 9 times out of 10, looking up such a game reveals that it has British developers - sure enough, CodeMasters is from England. It's interesting how things fall geographically like that. I also notice this with games like Speedball II (English developers), Cannon Fodder (English developers), Lemmings (Scottish developers). These were the games we played when growing up here in Australia, on our PCs and our 8-bit systems like Commodores, but aren't spoken about with nostalgia by the Americans. I identify with British video game channels more as a result. I think the distinction is blurred with more modern games. Emblematic of this is that I don't think people realise that Rockstar (same people who made Lemmings) are British and their modern games look American and are probably way more popular there.

I'm surprised Ferrari Grand Prix Challenge wasn't on the list. I loved that game, the music was awesome too.

I have very fond memories playing Super Sprint with my brother when we were kids.

I was definitely a Super Sprint and Super Offroad kid - but I see in this list you really only have a handful of archetypes: RC Pro Am types, Super Offroad types, Pole Position types, and Excitebike stands alone. You may be able to break out the Pole Positions into shooting/no shooting, like Roadblasters or Mach Rider vs Rad Racer, for instance.

Being unfamiliar with the NES I found myself pleasantly surprised how good some of these game are from a 8-bit machine. The F1 games all looked a bit samey to me but some of the others looked great. Super Sprint looks mint and Micro Machines too, great list m8 :)

The most underrated racing game for NES was Build to Win. It was the Gran Turismo, before Gran Turismo. I really thought it would be on this list.
